It is near the Pomme de Terre, and about a mile anda half from where Mr. Koch obtained a skeleton a few days since These remains are tound embedded in white quick sands and from two toten feet under ground Within the apace of twenty feet square numerous bones and hun- dreds of teeth of various shapes and kinds, and evi- dently belonging to diff+rent species of animels, have been found, frequently presenting the appearance of having been buried there. But the most remarkable mong then are the bones of the aforesaid Miesou- sium We saw, saysthe editor, and measured a thigh bone, which seems perfect and in excellent preservation, which measures three feet ten and a halt inches in length, thirteen and a half inches in diameter, at the head, and eight inches in diameter at itasmillest part. We also saw seven feet of a tusk which measured twenty-nine inches in circume ference where it was broken off. Among the great variety of teeth was one which weighed fifteen and a hall of rib bones were found, which were about an inch and a half thick, and three and a half wide; and ia- stead of being curved flatwise like the ribs of an ox, were curved edge wise. The bones in the best state of preservation yet discovered are the vertebra of the baek. Six of these were found in a hole about three feet square, and are periectly sound, the ob- lique process ot whi for containing the spinal marrow is about three inches in diameter From the fact of the remains of so many differ- ent animals b-ing found together, and a'so charred wood being found with them, the opinion seems very naturally to prev: and buried there by a race of beings loug since ex- tinct. Partelow, Ksq, is a de aulter to the Corporation to a large amount. His Worshup one of the committen, had been very particular in th | dischurge of his duty and it appeared the ofa a the Mayor, stated to the Board, that he, 9« t charges to an alarming it had Jy been dis ‘overed against the late City Chamber- lain, which, his worship seid, amounted to von of eleven thousand pounds! and ‘it was thought t! ficiency would amount to a much larger sum accounts were all brought up. It will be recollected that a committee of the Beard of Aldermen for 1842, adjusted accounts with Mr. Partelow the island, on the | ry to that ycar, when it waa made to appear that the Cor- at the de- /hen the ration owed him £10,000 and upwards, ana he received nds for that amount. When the committee of the lat cil allowed Mr. Partelow's claims, it was taken for grant. ed by the public, that the Corporation stood indebted to him jor that large amount, and this was advanced in jus- tification of bis conduct; but the committee that acknow- ledged the late Chambe thing: that all is not yet out—that more remainsto hod discovered before the Augean stable will be complete! its impurities.
