Coffee, left Spear’s wharf last evening ona moonlight excursion down the Bay, projected by the Independent Blues, a military company of this city. The number of persons on board mpaaprobebly (7 not much less than six or eight hundred, about one halt of whom were ladies. Most of the passengers had cone ated upon the upper deck. Soon after the boat aloft the wharf, the excessive weight above caused her to rock and overbalance. At this, , many became alarmed, thinking to right her again they changed positions in a body to the other side. ‘This made the matter worse, and the lurching be- eame awfully frighiful, so that the boat seemed on the eve of capsizing. Terrified and heart-rending screams ascended from the vast multitude, espe- cially the female portion, several of whom fainted and feil senseless upon the deck, whilst others were crying to be set on shore, and many seemed to anticipate immediate and certain destruction. One man in the fright, we learn, jumped overboard and swam to the shore. Others were in the act of fol- lowing as the boat reached the whart, und was brought to rights, when a large number of those who had taken paseage got off and returned home. Many, however, remaiued on board and proceeded down the bay about thirty miles, having a delight- ful time, and no further cavse tor fear.
