~~ BY THE SOUTH Acquirrat or R. P.§{Dowpxn.—This interesting trial, which lasted six days, was brought to a close last Saturday afternoon, by the Jury, after a few minutes absence from the Court, returning about 4 o’clock in the afternoon, a verdict of Not Guilty. On the announcement of this verdict there wae an evident and audible expreasion of gratification by clapping hands on the part of the audience, which, however, the Court endeavored to suppress. After returning the verdict of Not Guilty, the jury re- tired into the Marshal’s office, and there all put their names to a paper of whieh the following is a true copy :— sp Ww 5 4 ni ome cet Part een him in office” The District Attorney, on the rendition of the verdictof acquittal on the charge pzeferred against the prisoner for stealing the Treasury Notes, an- nounced his intention to abandon the two other in- dictments for forgery. The prisoner appeared to be much overpowered by his feelings when the verdict was announced, In the course of the day Z. C. Lee, Esq., and the Secretary of the Treasury gave evidence to the Jury as to the manner in which they had treated Mrs. Dorsey, as to what she had said to them, and what they had said to her, denying the truth of many of her statements, andrepudiating with indig- nation the charge of conspiracy.
