ed by hawking about loans which she cannot negotiate. She cannot borrow abroad, and will have no credit at home. Ina similar predicament, other States have had to resort to the banks, and compelled loans from them. This cannot be done now in New York. The opposite party have indeed decided against rechartering banks, and are- charter might bea means of extracting loans; but there are three banks only whose charters expire in 1844, and they havealready decided upon coming under the free law. Four others, with an aggregate capital of $1,400,000, expire in 1845. None others expire before 1850. Cense- quently they arenot in a petition to becoerced. The free banks, which hold about $4,500,000 of stock, mostly New York, will be ruined in the fall of stock. The evils at- tending such a result of the election are therefore great ‘and ruinous. On the other hand, the democratic party are in a manner pledged to the present regulations, in regard to State af fairs. Its resources and credit are on a firm basis, and al- thorgh not opposed to a continuance of those works which are really useful, they hold the wise policy of not “ paying too much for fhe whistle” ‘This is that to which capitalists and men of property have to look. Should the elections terminate in a guarantee that the present state of affairs will be continued, thefear now hanging over the the market will be removed, and money now idle, flow freely to its proper points of investment. The stocks of the Stateof New York must rise, and with them those of allother States, in fair credit. Money thus released, finds its way into all other channels of business, and the general prosperity is promoted. There wasa fair supply of animals at oth markets, ‘These prices exhibit a great decline in twelve months. That event is aa index to what woul be the immediate result of whig ascendancy upon the market value of existing stocks, The ultimate effects may be estimated. A seven per cent stock has lately been upon the market, and brought par sluggishly. The federal government have in vain offered a six per cent stock at a discount. The principal objections to that were, that the expenditure is greater than the income, and there is no certainty as to the amount to be required. As New York now stands, her receipts are fully equal to her expenses, and she is pledg ed to borrow no more. If $600,000 of her revenue is re- pealed, and the door open to unlimited issues, the result must be, that like the federal government, she can borrow no money whatever. ‘The property of present stockhold- ers will be ruined by depreciation, and the State dishonor i A FOUN Women Adaya ae er aby tan pad is toe do. im ber leat eraployers (a the city. nd altentiv= to every Please address to No, 45 Oliver bad iy or cree & Shai Pani, Mobile ED: Meribucke Cook aace, Van Doser, J sel, Sherwood, Soe | an; Manhattan, Doane, Apalachicola, E.
