GATIVES, BY Pepe yy cg —This is @ sub- ject which cannot learnt ks, for among all the works yet published. no Prarie his even hint died, the threshold of the bayer ie 1 was placed uj threshold ata very early period of my existence by those who had spent a Tong fe Prine the study of the multiplying power which vegetable purgatives have upon each other. have for nearly twenty years studied, and practised, this theory, almost to the exclusion of every other scisnce j and have discovered a purgative principle in several plants which have not heretofore been supposed to pos sess this quality, It is my intention at some future day to say more upon this subject, for | think besides the purgs tive properties alluded to, that there are other properties in these new purgatives which have a strong similitude to healthy human bile ; the investigation is replete with interest, and when I have finished it, the public shall have the result. GREAT EXPERIENCE AND JUDGEMENT are re- quiredto make a valuable and at the same time an inno- cent purgative. ‘This is possessed only by few. ‘The great majority of the remedies advertised of this class are manufactured by persons who have no idea of the relative or individual powers of the drugs they use.— It is this cause, more than aay other, which occasions the inertness and often injurious effecté produced, by adver- tised remedies. And hence the general prejudice which prevails against them. Now there is a great difference in this respect with regard to the pills made by Dr. B. Bran- dreth, and consequently their superior claims upon the pub- lie. h of the arti¢les com| =, the Brandreth Pills are prepared in that way which wili secure their bene- ficial cheots to the system in the ba sy and ,easiest man- ner. For instance, some ingredients have to be prepared im vacuo ; that is, the air is exhausted in the utensil, and remains so until # combination is effected with other in- gredients which afterwards prevents the ar acting inju- fons upon the medicine. Again the apeietitiee ‘ofeach ingredient depends upon itemultiplying power u n other ingredients. For the power of ferent vogetatne purgé- tives upon each other is governed by similar laws that govern the power of figures by multiplication. Nine idded to nine, makes eghteen; but nine times nine are cignty-ove. So it is with some vegetable purgatives. By adding nine parts of one ingredient and nine parts of ano- ther ingredient together, the power is increased, not to eighteen, but to eighty-one. For example, either of the articles to produce any purgative ellect, ‘would have to be used to the extent ‘ot eighty-one grains, by cage them only eighteen grains have to be used. Again, ano- ther ingredient is found to multiply this power again, which an roportion of two grains would have no effect upon the animal economy, but which added to fo eighteen grains of a compound of two parts of nine h of two ingredients, will again multiply tue jower which they have gained of eighty-one to one hundred and sixty- two. ain this mixture oftwenty grains can be again multiplied yy another addition of two 8 to the power of three hundred and twenty-four grains of the original power of the two first ingredients. Here we have twen- ty-two grains which as a purgative contain the power pty to three hundred and twenty-four grains ot either of the articles alone ; nevertheless, although so powerful, after being thus combined, are safe in any quantity ; al. ways having a beneficial elfect, and in no case capal le of doing injury, of which thousands bear ample witness. ‘The time will come when this medicine, THE BRANDRETH PILLS, will be appreciated as they ought and as they deserve. It will be well understood then that Dr. B. Brandreth has the strongest claims upon the public confidence. It is true that every, individual who makes atrial of the Brandreth’s Pills concede them to be the best medicine they ever used.— They are indeed a medicine {about which there is no mi take. Their value in a climate so changeable as ours can- not be sufficiently appreciated. A free perspiration is once restored; thus they cure colds, and consumption is prevented. Those who have aredundancy of bile find them of the most essential service; and should there be deficiency of that important flsid, the Brandreth Pills have an equally beneficial effect. Often has this impor- tant medicine saved valuable lives in those regions where the DREADED YELLOW FEVER was prevailing. A few doses taken immediately upon infection being receiv- ed into the system, will be almost certain to prevent any material inconvenience. And at no stage of this dreadful epidemic is there so proper a medicine as the Brandreth Pills, Let this medicine be universally used in this dis. ease, AND NO LOSS OF BLOOD ALLOWED, and lew, very few, would be its victims. So it is with other diseases: ASSIST NATURE with this all-important. medicine, to remove morbid humors from the blood, and do not resort to bleeding or‘mercury, and we shall have a very GREAT SCARCITY of persons afflicted wit SHRONIC MALADIES. The feathered tribe—the ani- mal kingdom—over which we are the lords, they are not afflicted with Chronic Maladies, neither should we be if it were not our pride which occasions them. FOLLOW NATURE. Use that medicine which harmonizes with het which mildly but surely removes all impurities from the blood, which strengthens the feeble and yet reduces those of too full habit toa healthy standard. Let me again say that every department of the manufacture of the Brandreth Pills is personally Sala eseseer ‘by me, and that every box with my three labels upon them may be relied upon to have the beneficial effect described, if used according to the directions sccompanyin each box. ‘he public’s servant, BRANDRETH.
