Sn—- Our townspeople, or rather such of them as are not Whigs, made a strong muster yesterday, to greet the honorable Martin Van Buren, who arrived about five o’clock.. Many say they have never seen so Jargea procession in our city. Martin looked in good health and spirits, having much increased in flesh since } last saw him, but poor Paulding, the tee- totaller, looked very slim. It appears the ehange ot climate, and the Mississippi and Ohio waters does not agree quite so well with him as the honorable gentleman. If I might hazardan opinion, it is pre- cisely because Martin is no tee-totaller, and seldom, if ever, allows water to lay cold on his stomach by taking itpure. The procession was composed of our military companies with a band; Ladies in car- riages, and gentlemen aad niggers of horseback. In this way, Martin and his suite was paraded through our principal street to the Galt House, where as is usual in such cases, being ealled upon, he made a speech, signifying nothing, which mighty few heard, and all chee dt is stated here that he is travel- ling solely to see the country, having never been to this section of America.
