William Pearne of this Town, at Sea, the Jollowing Particalars are extrafied from bis jour- nal of that Misfortune, viz. : N the 14 of Janusry left, we failed from Portf- mouth in New Hempfhire, bound for Barbs- dos, and had fine pleafant Weather till the 21ft. at Night, when a hard Gale at S. W. (plit our Forefail to Pieces ; afier which the Wind vered to the Weft- ward, and then at N. W, we run under our reefed Square Sail moft of the Time till the 25th. In the Morning the Wind being S. W. we fhip’d a large Sea, which threw the Veflel almoft on her Beam End, wafhed over part of her Cargo, and made her {o lesky, that we could not keep her free with one Pamp, and the other we could not work, which o- bliged us to throw overboard the Lumber on Deck 3 yet notwithftanding on the 27th in the Morning fhe funk all under, excep ing the Quarter Deck, snd part of her Bows, being then in the Lat. of 35 D 40.m.N. and Long. ofabout 56 D. 10 M. Weilt. We faved about three Pound of Breed, 25 Pound of Flower, with 60 Gallons of Water, with Beef, Pork and Salt Fifh encugh, butin three Days after had 40 Gallons of Waier wafh’d overbosrd, which obliged us to come to the fhort Allowance of half a Pint a Day, baving fire Men befides myfelf on board. We en- desvoured to keep her Head before the Wird, which continued to the Weftward for 14 ot 15 Days, and mcft of the Time hard Gales ; we had not two Gsl- lons of Water on beard at this Time, and were bro’t to the yet fmaller Allowance of Six Spoonfulls, and sbout one Ounce and half of Flour for 24 Hours.
