They remained at Cowes upoards of fix Weeks paft, but a few Days ago, a Jew Paffenger, in afluent Circum- Srances, thinking bimfelf ill treated, went to Cowes, and there gave Information upon Oath, that thers was on éoard Jaid Dutch Ships feveral French Gentlemen and Servants, who were going as Paffengers to Martinico, and that be had Reafon to believe, fome of the Ships were lader with Provifions and warlike Stores, and bound direftly to the Jaid French Coiony. Andrew Brown's; befides which one was found killed, and 3 flabbed : As no Noife was made by the Indiens (who perhaps intecnded to have furprized the Mecn inftead of Horfes, had they not found them on their Guard and tooNumerous) the Lofs was not dijcovered ’ill next Motfning, when Parties were fent out; buithe Enemy were gone off with fuch Precipitation, that they could not be overtaken, unlefs followed to their Towns : Itappesred that the Enemy had divided them'elves into three Parties, one of which took the Roue to Eftatowieh, the two others towards Keohwee, below old Eftanorih, which two left (by the Tracks) joined about two Miles from the Rangers Encampment.—Mr. Miln, Mr. Wilkinfon and Mr. Bell, came away from Fort Prince George with Major Thompfon, and may be foon expeéted in Town, Mr. Wilkinfon was a Lieatgnant in the former South- Caroli- na Regiment, ‘till it was redpced to three Companies,” and afterwartdsa Volunteer in the Independent Compa- nies, upen Governor Lytileton’s Expediton, and has remained at Fort Prince George ever fince ; and Mr; Bell (an Enfign in the fame Regiment) has been there as long ; but they are now happily relieved by Lieut. M’Intofh, acd Enfign M’Donald. The Men in Gar- rifon in that Fort are not yet exchanged. ANN APO LIS, in Maryland, March 26. Yefterday arrived here from Barbades, Capt. Irelend, which place he left the 18th of February, and informs, that Com. Douglafs having been acquainted by the Temple and Emerald men of war thet they had chaced a 70 gun French man of war,s frigate and ftorefhip'into the Granades, the Commodare, with two other fhips of the lins, fail’d immediately down in order to block them in ; and the whole fleet was {eon to fail from Carlifle Bay, in order to join him, inan attack againft tho'e iflands. Captain John Whiting, in the thip Refpe@, bound home from Virgizis, was tzken by a French privateer who took feveral other prizes, the manning of which’ weakned their compliment of hands fo much, that the Englifh on board found mears to get poffeflion of her, and carried her into the Ifls Man. Murray to be Lieut. Col. to Webb’s, in the Room of Col. Burton, promoted. Major Provoft is appointed Lieut: Col. in the third Battalion of Royal Americans, in the Room of Col. Young, exchanged.
