S— . ¥ Province oF New Hamesuirg. To the Printer, HOEVER Encourages the Raifing any ufeful Commodity, is fo far a public Benefatlor, in which Way I fhould be glad to contribute my Mite to the Service of the Province, which I apprehend would « be greatly-advanced by a clofer Attention to, and Prac- tice of the Bufinels of Agriculture. The King bimfelf is ferved of the Field. But among the many Branches of this Bufine(s ( for it is a Jarge Fie/d ) the Raifing of FLAX deferves more Regard, than has been generally had to it, in this Part of the Province : For the Uleful- nefs of it is evident, and the great Demand for feveral Years laft paft for the Seed, is an edditional Advantage, yet Farmers in general-have not been difpofed to raife it, as they might have done : ; Wherefore, as the Seafon is now coming on for the Bufinefs of Hufbandry, I would put my Neighbours in Mind, of not_forgetting their own Advantage in this Asticle. And if to be affured of a Market and a good - Price beforehand, for a confiderable Quantity, will prove an Encoursgement ; [ hereby engage to take off their Hards, any Quantity to the Amount of Five Thoulfand Pounds Weight, and will give at the Rate -of Sixty Pounds Old Tenor @ Hundred Averdupoize, for that which fhall be well dreffed from the Swingle. And Four Pounds Old Tenor & Buthel for the Seed well cleanled, any Quantity to the Amount of Two Thoufsad Buthels. And fuch Seed as is'Foul, I wiil take at a proper Allowance for clesnfing, and will pay the Cathif delivered at my Houfe any Time before the laft of Otober next. Iam pre(waded if Farmers could be prevailed on te fhake off their Attachment to old Cuftoms, inquire more into the Pra&ice of other Places, and but once admit us a poffible Cafe, that there might be a better Way of improving Land, than either their Grandfathers, their Fathers, or themfelves, ( which is generally one uniform Round ) have hitherto known, we fhould foon fee lefs Labour loft in Raifing Indian Corn, ( one Bufhel of which cofts as much before it is fit for Ufe, as three of Englith, ) more wholfome as well as more Plenty of chesper Bread, more Flax ( which perhaps is_the moft profitable ) and every other Incresfe of the Field, the Public better provided with all the Neceflaries of Life, snd what is ftill more, the Farmers here, as well as in other Places grow rich. Hampton, March 16. 1761. ! JONA’THAN MouLNON. P'OR T S M O U T H. We hear by the laft Ship from London, That the Hon. SAMUEL SOLLEY, Efq; who was Colletor of His Majefty’s Cuftoms for this Port, many Years, died there fometime in December laft. It may (atisfy the Curious by inferting, that the late EARTHQUAKE, as mentioned in our laft, at York andKittery was zo Minutes palt Two in the Morning ; the fmall Shock was 21 Minutes afterwards : The Mo- tion of the firft was- very confiderable, but not Hori- zontslin any Degree, which might be the Reafon why no Damage happened upon that awful Event.
