NEW.JERSEY, Nov. 3. N Tuetday morning the 6:n of November, 2 young man geenteely drefs’d, fhot himfeif in the church-yard at Burlington : He had arrived at Philadel- P phia from Ireland about three weeks before, and had s not been in Burlington above a day or two: He at- tempted to fhoot himfeli with a piftol the night before, a but was prevented by the people of the houle where he 2 lodg’d: The coroner'sinqueft fat upon the Body, and 3 brought in their verdit, Felo de fe. He accomplifhed this unnature) a& of fuifcide in the following manner : S He had procured a fhort fowling piece loaded with £ largeduck fhot, and raifing him/(elf upon a grave in the church-yard he fixed the muzzle under the left fide of his brealt, and with the ram rod forced the trigger, whereby the whole charge enter’d his body, and (as is fuppofed) fhatter’d his heatt (o pieces ; for he expired 1guop ] ollew his father, his name appears to be James M'Namara ; and that he left Ireland upon fome family difcontent. 9 be follswing Letter was wrote by Mr. Lawrence M’- Nemara, the father of the unbappy youth, who fbot bimfelf at Burlington. It was wrote to bis fos before be left Dublin. ;i S PR IT furprizes me very much, that you did not purfae A yourdefign in going on board & man of war, as you intended. I theught that fcheme would be more to your advantage, than going to dmerica aboard & mer- chant-man paying for your paffage, and running the ri‘que of being taken and made prifoner in France, till you Rarved befare you could be relieved. But in cale that had not happened, #ll you could propofe to do was, when you got thither, to enter into the land [er- vice, or go on board a man of war, which I think you could have dore in England at much lefs expence, and with more fafety. Butas it is your own choice, in the . name of God, do, as you have always done, follow your own opinion : If you once get aboard a king’s fhipin England, and that you went from thernce to Ame- rica, then'it is conceived you may go with fome fafe- ty ; but going aboard a poor merchant man, of no fort of force, at this junture, I think is an idle fcheme. However, I defire you will not lofe time, but difpatch yourfe!f one way or the other. I have fent you a bill on Mr. Conry for Fifteen Pounds: You very well know how much it is in my power to do whatI Have done for you, and whata charge you have left after you; fo that you ought not to have laid out your little fund in cloaths, that will curn to ncaccount te you in foreign parts, except you fell them for a third part value. I . give you my Blefling, and with you good fuccefs, and beg you will always have the fear of God be'ore your eyes, otherwile you cannot expeét to profper. [am : Your Father, Law. M"NEMARA. P. §. Dear Fatber, Burlington, Nov. 6, 1759. ¢ [ Have arrived in Philadelpbia, the 14th of Octo- ber laft, where I remained in defpair for a confiderable time; butas [ had been difappointed in every fhape, I intended to let you know what misfortune [ came to; [ met with no friend or acquaintance in faid town ; for which reafon [ betook myfelf to Burlington, where I met with a reiaticn of mine, one Wbhenny Frrakelin, to whom I left all my cloaths, cheft, &c. and begged « of her to fece me buried. Ltockaway my own life, to be revenged of the blood I fuffered in lofing my dear brother, on account of miarrying fo flagrant and fo de- {picible a jade, that was the deftrution of our family. Thele few limes. when reccived, will give her the high- eft pleafure. I forgive all the world but your wite ; for fhe was the occafion of my departing the werld fo early. I have no more to fay, but requelt you wiil take care of my dear child, as he is the laft of my family, and yeu will oblige Your misfortunate Son, James M'NEMaRA. P. S. You need not trouble yourfelf by fending me any money ; for you will never hear nor fce more of your diftrelled fon.
