From Fort Augufta, we learn, that the garrifon was well there the firft Inftant: That a Number of Indians were at that Place, in order to trade with our People, who all fec ra- ed well fatisfied, and very quiet : That there were among(t them fomeFamilies from Alleg- heny, who faid they would go and fettle at Wioming : And that feveral of the Mingo Indians had alfo been at that fort, and brought with them a white Prifoner, a Jad about 16 years of age, who was carried off from Juniata four years ago. N E W-Y O R K, September 17- By the Albany Poft yefterday, we learn, That General Gage, was gone with his Army from Ofwego, towards Ofwegatchi, on the River which leads towards Montreal ; and thatGeneral Amherft wasftill at Crown Point. The Coroner’s Inqueft returned their Verdi&®, Manflaughter —Lyonsis in Cuftody. B O § T O N, September 24. Monday Evening arrived here a Schooner, Roberts, Mafter, and Wednefday Even- inganother Schooner Ford, Mafter, both from theRiver St. Lawrence andLouifbourg: They left the Ifle of Orleans about ten Days after the Diana Frigate : There are Letters by them dated at Camp at Point Levee to the 21ft of Auguft ; but we fiod none gave any Particulars of the further Operations of the Britith Forces againft Quebeck : Account we can gather by thefe Veffels is, That another large Battery, befides thofe which we have mentioned already, had been _ere€ted againft the City and played upon it with fuch Succefs that all the Houfes within Reach of the Shells and Shot were demolifh- ed : That the enemy made no Sallies from their Intrenchments upon that Part of our Army which were atMontmorancy ; but they had fent a confiderable Body of Troops to endeavour to furround General Murray, who, as we formerly mentioned, had landed above the City ; who had repulfed them feveral Times, whereby he prevented their Defign of cutting off the Communication he had with the other Part of our Forces ; and that he kept his Ground good, and had been joined by fome Succours :—There was a Talk, that two of the largeft Ships were to go up againtt the. Town, and a general At- tack be made in about a Week :—That the Deferters from the Epemy which came to our Camp reported, that the French were allowan- ced to half a Pound of Meat per Day ; and that it was Death in their Camp to mention Gen. Ambher{t’s Name : By which ’tis proba- ble the French have had Intelligence of the Succefls of our Forces to the Weftward : — A ftout Indian Fellow, who had been Prifoner on board the Admiral’s Ship fome Time, made hisEfcape by jumping out of aWindow at her Stern, into the Water, and {wam to he Shore.——Juft as the laft Schooner was ning away, Admiral Saunders . received ligence from the Shore, that a Party of lcn which were out difcovered aNumber Enemy-Indians in a Barn at fome Di- from the City, which they furrounded, 16 Prifoners, Laft Saturday the Guns of the Caftle, and of the Batceries of thisTown were difcharged 3 and this Evening there is to be llluminatons, Bonfires, &c. upon Occafjon.of the certain Advice received, that Prince Ferdinand at the Head of his Majelty’s Traops in Germany, had totally defeated the French Army under Marfhal Contades. Never did the public Joy rife higher.—By former Accounts, the Enemy were in Poflcffion of Heffe Caflel, and on the Borders of Hanover, the State Pa- pers were removed from the Capital to Stade. —All his Majetty’s Loyal Subje@s among us, (and indeed where is there a difaffe@ed one) telt for his Majefty, and trembled for our Pro- teftant Brethren in thofe Countries—T hey are now entirely refcued from their Fears, and from the Opprefions of their inveterate Ene- my —So fealonabie and important a Vifory demands the moft grateful Acknowledgments —and with great Satisfaction it is perceived that the firft Attention of his Majefty was to order that public Praife and Thankfgiving thould be readered in all Churches, to the fu- preme Ruler of the Univerfe, for this his gra- cious Appearance in Behalf of the Proteftant Caufe. We have now the more pleafing Profpeét of enjoying to the full, the Advan- tages that arife from the great Succefs of his Mujeity’s Arms in America.—By the laft Ac- counts trom the River, The Enemy unhap- pily for themfelves, not complying with the Offers made them by General Wolfe—our Troops were making the greateft Deftruction among their Settlements above and below Quebeck, and we don’t yet defpair of that Capital’s being reduced Wolfe has near the whole Country to oppofe him, but not above 1800 Regulars, about 800 being at the Pafs of St. John’s. Camp ‘at Crowa-Point, Sept. 14. 1759. ““ We are [lill bere, great Preparations for going on, but not yet ready. Many People be- gin 4o think we (ball not go further this Year : In fbort, the General only knows whether we Jball or mot. The News from Gen. Wolfe does not turn out [o bad as was at first imagined, bis Lofs was wvery fmall, chiefly owing 10 the Im- pesuofity of 1hofe that made the sttack. Gen. Amberft makesno Doubt but Quebeck is in our Hands by this Time. Some of our Men of War and Troops bave paffed the Town and done a great deal of Damage. It is {aid, that ifGeneral Wolfe cannot take the Place this Fall, be will winter with bis Troops on the Ifle of Orleans, 3 Miles from Quebeck, if [0, be is fure of the whole Country 5 bis Jcouting Party brought in 500 Head of borned Cattle, and beat the Cana- dian Parties every where, and bave killed more Indians than bas been done this War.—Tbe French are in the utmoff Diftrefs, which we learn fromall Hands. There bas been a Flag of Truce bere lately, their Errand was about the Prifoners, and they made no Secret of the Cala- mities of their Country. Montcalm’s Letters were dated the 30th of Auguft, but does not [ay what place be was at.---The Officer of the Flag of Truce [aid our Batteries from the South Bank of the River bas ruined Quebeck, and almoft laidit in Afbes. Col. Rogers went out Yeflerday with alarge Scout of 250 Men. Our Fort and Improve- ments are going on faff. We bave bad a great deal of Rain lately, which bas made the Troops (e/pecially the Provincials) a little ficklyy but it’s now very fine Weather, ard they are recover- ing.---This is all the News th:s Place affords, for the General keeps every Thing very fecret.”’-- " Novg. Sept. 240h 1759, 2n Capt. Rider, who arrived bere Iaff Friday from Londsn, came Paffenger BEn;amin Barons, Ejq; Col- ledtor if bis Maj. fiy’'s Cuflums for this Port. We bear from Barbadvs, that Capr Ellery in a Snow climging to this Place was arrived there from the Ceaft of Guinea: Capt. They are wrote at the Royal Piuf-. fian Camp at Lewenberg July 26, at Dant- zick July 28, and at Berlin July 3., as fol- lows,—The Battle was fought July 23d, in the Afternoon. The Dantzick Account fays, aVictory was gained by the Ruffians,in which 22,000 Pruffians loft their lives, with a great Number of Officers ; that it was renewed the next Morning, and not a few of them drown- ed. General Manteuffel, tho” wounded, affift- ed General Wedel in making the Retreat : The A&ion happened between Zulichau and Grumberg. The viorious Ruffian Army is in full March for Francfort : This Account was written by the Primate to the Senators of Poland, whom he fends to repair to War- faw ; which would not have fo much Credit, was it not immediately followed by one from Berlin, of the 31ft of July, which fays, We have the difagreeable News, that the Ruffians have made themfelves Mafters of Francfort upon the Oder ; and fome of their Coffucks, and other Ragga Muffins had appeared with- n 4 or 5 Miles of that Place. It is impoffi- ble to exprefs the Confternation we [at B-rlin] were under, which however, is a litile abared upon the News that a great Corps of Huffars from the King’sArmy 15 at no great Diftance 5 and that Prince Henry has actually joined Gen. Wedel with 18000 ‘Men, and is at the Heels of the Ruffian Army. The Account fiom the Royal Pruffian Camp, fays, The News that the Ruffians have gained an Advantage over the Army of Count Dohna, has thrown the Army here into a kind of Diftradtion ; fo that tney demand in a tumultvous Manner to be led out to revenge the Lofs of their Countrymen, upon the Auftrians. His M.j fty knows how to take Advantage of this warm Diip. fi 1on in the Soldieas. The Gazetteer then goes on to fuppofe the Pruflians will give no Quarter. He doubs noc if the King’s' Prudence will aliuw him to rifk an A&tion ; and concludes, that by peifitting in this pru- dent Method he will certainly be outlone.- - - A Pa- ragraph under Hamburgh, Aug 3d, fays,-- -The Ac- count fent here by the Ruflian General to the Agent, is very m.deft ; he ‘ays on'y, that he kept the Freld of Battle, he loit one General Officer ; but Leiters rom Berlin fay, The Royal Family nave quitted thei Capital, and that his Pruffiin Maj-/ly witn 12,000 H rfe ha< j)in- ed Gen.
