| ‘\ CHARLES TOWN, ( in South Carolina ) Fuly z1. Letters of a late date from Augufta, bring us the following Advices, viz. Thatthe Hon. Edward Atkin, Efg; His Majefty’s Superintendant, &c. was ftill at " the Cuffitaw’s Town ; that his Entry iato the Cree' Nation had been very grand, at which attended the Headmen and many others of all the Lower Creek Towns, as far as Flint-River ; but that he proceed- ed with fuch Caution and Secarity in all his Tranfac- tions, that our Correfpondents were not able to give us any Account of them. That fome French Emif- faries had found Means to prevent, as yet the Con- ference tzking Place, to which Mr. Atkin had fent to invite the Challaw Headmen; thatit was however reported, that about 70 Challaw’s were come into the Upper Creek Nation ; and ’twas propofed to fend fome Traders amonglt them, That the French at the Haibama Fort tho’ very much diftreffed, full of Apprehenfions, and deftitute of almoft every Thing neceflary to keep Indians in good Humour, laft Win- ter ; were lately plentifally fuppiied with Brandy, Powder, Ball, Goods &c from Mobille. That the Mortar of the Oakchoys, an audacious Fellow, pro feffedly in the French Interet a great Warrior, and who has great influence among the Creeks, had been a good Part of lat Winter in the Cherokee Nation, and was the beginning of laft Month, arrived within a few Days March ¢f his own Country, attended by a number of Cherokees. That Togulki, the Em- peror of the Creeks (a young Fellow, who affefls to tread in the Steps of his father Malatchi, by pretending to be equally attached to Engith, French and Spani- ards)in 14 Days from Home ; the Young Lieat. from Charles Town ; and Togulks’s Uncle, the principal Headman of the Cowetas, from the Cherokees, met at Augufla the 28¢h ult. accordingly, they fay ; and feemed highly pleafed with that Mecting. And that Togulki was going from thence on a Ramble ( as he called it) to the Lower Cherokees which occafions much Speculation. We have fome other Advices from the fame Quarter, which itis proper to pafs over in Silence. 4 B OS T O N, Aogalt 27. We hear from fome of the Frontier Towns to the Northward, that great Numbers of Bears have lately come down among them, more than was ever known. And aboat a Fortnight ago'a confiderable large one came down to Brookline, about 6 Miles from this Place, which was kill’d and brought to this Market. Tuefday laft arrived here an armed Brigantine in 6 Days from Halifax, commanded by Capt. Rogers, employed in the Service of Nova Scotia :——There was no Veflel arrived there from the River St. Law- rence fince Capt. Donnel, which was mentioned in our latt. On Saturday laft the Courier came in from Albany, by bim ae learn, That General Amberft awith the Army were at Crown Point, where they were building a firong Fort near awbhere Fort Frederick flood, which awould be foon compleated 5 and awhen finifbed would be fuperiour to the old one, both for irength and Situation :—1bat the French avere all retir'd.to St. Joba's, where they bave a Fort firongly entrenched :—That Part of the Army are employed in cutting t1co Roads, one to N. 4. and the other to Pennicaok :=="That Col. Extraft of a Letter from Albany, dated Auguft 12, “ A new Fort is immediately to be conftrutted near the Place where Crown Point Fort formerly ftood. It is exceeding good Land about it. Qur People have found three large Ficlds of Green Peale, which was fufficient for the whole army three Days.” Capt. Waterman in a light Sloop bound to the Eaft- ward, was overfet on Sunday the 12th ult. between Sequin and Damarifcotta 1flind, by a fudden Guft of Wind : There were three Menon board when the over- | fet, one of which was dfowned, the other two (aved themfelves by getting upon the Bottom of the Veffel ' and were alterwards taken off by a Fifhing Schaonery who alfo towed the Veflel athore. Laft Saturday Evening Capt. Collins arrived here in 24 Days from New-Providence, and informs, that Yefterday fe’nnight he fpoke with Capt. Tarbox in a Brig from St. Ann's in Jamaica, bound to Pifcataqua, who had been out but 21 Days.—Governor Shirley was not arrived at Providence. when Capt, Collins came away, but was daily expetted. This Morning a Veflel came in from Kennebeck River, by whom we learn, that Lieat. Hutchins, with four others from Fort Halifax, fat off from thence yefterday fe’nnight, to crofs the Woods to Quebeck, with Difpatches for General Wolfe. Extralt of a Letter from London, dated June 15. —** Breft is blocked up by Admiral Hawke with 29 Ships of the Line, and Toulon is blocked up by Admiral Bofcawen with 19 Ships of the Line ; and befides ail this new Squadrons are forming at Spit head. The Parliament is brcke up :a Vote of Credit given ;and Harmony at the Heim fuch as has not been for a long Time. The French are preparing to enter Hefle, and we every Day exped to hear of a Battle from that Quarter.
