ExtraZ of a Letter from the lfis, at Sea, off of Plymouth, March 25. —*¢ On the zoth inflant, being cru'zing on the coaft of France, about fivs in the afternoon, in com pary with the ZEolus frigate of ;@ guss Capt. Elliot, we fell in with a French fleet of morchant fhips of 35 fail, convoyed by four of the French King’s Fri- gates, off the Ifle of Riee, Capt.Elliot inthe Zolus, who greatly out failed the Ifis, began the attack with two of the frigates, viz. Le Bon, of 32 guns and about 300 men, and the Minion, of zo guns and 142 men, and continued the attack with the greateft bravery and intrepidity, within piftol fhot, for half an hour before we cou!d come to his afliltance, oc- cafioned by our running to leewards in order to at- tack the Commodore ; and when we came up the Minion had ftruck to the Zolus. In this attion the firft Captain of the Minion was killed, the fecond mortally wounded, and the third {lightly, with 29 private men killed and 25 wounded.——We made all the fail we could after the Le Bon, but cotld not come any nearer to him than within mufket fhot a- flern, in which pofition we continued chafing, and firing our bow-chace guns at him, and he his ftern- chace at us, from half patt fix o’clock in the evening till nine, at which time we gave over chace, becaufe our pilot‘wonld not take charge of the fhip if we continued it any longer, as we were fo clofe in fhore, and the wind blowing right upon it.” FravckrorT, April 15. The Day before Yefter- day we were SpeQators, from the Height of our Towers, upon the Ramparts, of 2 moft bloody Battle -jought near Berghen, 2 League from this City, be- tween the French and the Allies. The former at- tacked the latter about Six in the Morning ; at Ten the Artillery began to play on both Sides with in- credible Warmth, and the A&ion continued obftinate till between Ten and Eleven in the Evening, when the Night occzfioned a Ceflation of Hoftilities. Both Armies continued on the Field of Battle till Five the next Morning, when the Allies thought properto retire about two Leagues. . Ttis natural to fuppofe, that in an Engagement which lafted fifteen Hours there muft be a great Lofs on both Sides ; all we know of it is, that our City is crowded with wounded and dying Men.
