Accord- ingly bis Royal Highnefs fet out the fame Day from- his Camp at Maxen, at the Head of eight Battalions and twelve Squadrons of Hullars, with whom he ar- rived here at Four in the Afternoon. Bat this Stratagem not fucceeding, he returned on the 10th with a large Re- inforcement which Genceral Jacoblef had bro’t him, and again fummoned the Governor, Major Heyden, to furrender ; which he refufed to do. ~Onthe 12th the Ruffians began again to bombard the Place. On the 13th they made an Affault, but were beat off with the Lofs of 200 Men, among whom was Maj. Lauterbach, and two other Officers, On the 17:h the Befiegers made a freh Affault, and advarnced with a greater Confidence, that the Town fired with Powder only ; but when they were come pretty near, the Governor received them with fuch a fmart Fire, that con were Liiled on the Spot, and ihe At- tack was happily repulfed. The Fortrefs ftill held out on the 20th ; the Works had fuffered no Da- mage ; and the Governor had taken fuch Precau- tions, that no Part of the Town hath been fet on Fire : Nor had the Garrifon loft any Men.” H amsurcH, Of. 27.
