Beach and all his Men, 45 in Number, were all alive and well when this Man got away. We learn by Perfons from the Weftward, that the French were rebuilding the Fort at Cataraqui, and x:at they had alfo got two new Vefiels on the Stocks there. We learn from Rhode Ifland, that Capt. Drew in a Vellel belonging to that Place, on his Paffage to Monti Chrifto, boarded and took a French Brig from the Miflifippi, laden with Logwood, Fer, &c. Capt. Drew bad but 2 Guns, and no Commiflion, not- withftanding which he fent the Brig to Connanicut (about 3 Miles from Newport) with Advice thereof to his Owners, who immediately fent out a Snow, (belonging to them, which lay ready for the Sea, acd had a Commiffion) to take Pofleflion of her, which they did, and after keeping her at Sea two Days, bro’t her into Rhode Ifland. Saturday laft Capt. Edwards, in a large T'ranfport cof 7ooTons, arrived here in 8 Days from St John's River, having on board the remainder of the Artil- lery, and about 40 Matrofies. And Yefterday Capt. Loring in anetherTranfport, arrived here in 6 Days from the fame Place, and in- forms, that a Number of our Forces had been a great Diftance up St. John's.River, and had come upon another French Settlement, confifting of about 40 Houfes, before the Inhabitants had Time to carry off their Goods, which our People deftroy’d, toge- ther with their Houles, &c. killed a great Number of Cattle, and took fome of the Inhabitants Prifoners, and alfo bro’t off a Sloop and a Schuoner which the Neutral French had takea from us fome Time fince. —That as Capt.
