In a private letter from Breflau there is this remarkable relation : that fome ‘overtures of peace having been made by his Pruffian'Majefty to the King of Poland, which the latter feemed to ap- prove, a debate arofe in-<council about the terms on which it was to be obtained ; in the courfe of which count Bruhl, the Saxon minifter (who had been the caufe of all the misfortunes that have befallen his country) made ufe of fome indecent expreflions to the eldeft Prince of Poland, which fo provoked his highnefs, that he drew his fword and ftabb’d the old traitor to the heart. Other letters feem to confirm the account of this minifter’s difgrace, but none {peak of his death except thisjult mentioned. The fame letters add, that Schweidnitz is entirely evacuated by the inhabitants, and that there are none but Auftrian {oldiers in the town, who find the greateft difficulty imaginable to fubfift. Feb. 25. We are advifed from Lifbon, that on the 31t ult, about fix in the Morning, they felt a new fhock of an Earthquake, which lafted half a Minute, and was accompanied by a fubterraneouns Noife. Tho’ it caufed no Damage, @ more violent thock was not felt fince that of Nov. 1, 1755. The Braflels Gazette fays, that the Raffians have taken Pofleflion of Elbing ; that on the 11th inft. an Exprefs arrived at Breft, with orders to fit out, with the utmoft Diligence, 22 Ships of the Line, 10 Fri- gates, 8 Bomb Veflels, and rgTranfports ; the Fleet isto be viQualled for four Months, and to take on board 14,000 regular Troops and 400 Militia, to execute a fecret Expedition. We are told by fome private Letters from Breflav, brought over by the lait Dutch Mail, that about " swenty Perfons have been lately executed in that City (among whom there is a Monk) fer a Conlpi- racy to cut off the King of Pruflia, either by Poifon, Pifto! or Dagger, according as Opportunity might offer ; Upon which thefe Letters obferve, thatthe Bithop of Breflau may have been concerned in the Plot ; and was indeed fufpeted by his Pruffian Ma- jefty ; notwithftanding which, he was not clofely watch’d, but in fome manner fuffered to flip away to Vienna, where (they thiok) he has been advifed to go to Rome, leaft the Imperial Court fhou!d be fuf- peded to have had a hand in the Confpiracy. The , Vavafon, from New.York, and the , Malcom, from' Bofton, for Madeira, are taken and carried into Louifbourg. It is rumoured, thata certain -great perfonage will foon refame his employments. Extrad of a Letter from a Gentleman in Winchefler, dated April 18, ¢ A very unlucky Accident lately happened in this Neighbourhood. On Sunday, the gth Inftant, David Miller, a Countryman,was fired at from bebind fome Rocks near the Houfe of Aaron Jenkins, about 18 Miles from Winchefter ; fome of the Country Peo- ple going out afterwards, faw two Men, painted and drefled like Indians, who, on perceiving them, ran off with great Precipitation. The Neighbours be- ing greatly alarmed at this, went to Pattifon’s Fort, to inform the commanding Officer therewith, on which Enfign Coleby Chew was ordered out with a Party of Men; he foon fell upon their Traéts, and continued on them till he bad croffed the North Mountain, where he found a Beef, with Part of the hind Quarters taken,off, and the Tongue cut out in the Indian Manner :" About a Mile from thence he faw two Men at a Fire ; he advanced within a few Yards of them, and intended to have made them Pri- foners, but one of his Seldiers firing, difcovered him to the Men, who inmediately endeavoured to lay hold of their Guns. Mr. Chew then, fearing that fome of his Party might lofe their Lives, fired upon them, and his Mean followed his Example fo effectu- ally, that fcarce one Bullet mifled the Objeét it was aimed at.
