Speaking o Sports The New Britain high school foot- ball team is to meet another eleven composed of undergradustes this afternoon. With the first game against the Naugatuck Alumgl and the second against the graduates of the New Britain school, it looked as if a major portion of the season would be spent against alumni teams. But a schoolboy squad will form the opposition this afternoon in Pittsfield. : A remaining difficulty, however, lies in the fact that the team is tak- ing the road for three weeks and Will not meat another school team before Hardware City fans until November. Jack Arute and Bill Clancy will attend 2 meeting of the American Roller_Hockey league in Albany to- morro. This meeting will decide whether or not New Britain will have a feam in the loop again this winter. The Triangle football team will practice at the South street grounds at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning. Every player is urged to be present. Johnny Hills, the Bobby Jones of Church street, went down to a golf defeat at the municipal course Sat- urday and is in the depths of gloom. Tt is rumored he had his picture taken and intended to have it pub- lished when (not if) he won the amateur tournament. His defeat eliminated him from the tourney. Gallant Fox may be gone Jimmy Foxx will not retire as long as Connie Mack needs a home run punch. Five extra-Lase blows and five runs by the A's in the first game of the series was proof that a team can win without the aid of asingle hit. None of the St. Louis Cardinal pitchers in the final game of the world series batted. The first hurler, Hallahan, was replaced by Fisher when his turn came at bat. Johnson was replaced by Blades, gave' way to Orsatti, and Bell dil not have a turn at hat. Jimmy O'Connell came out of oh- livion recently and, according to re- ports in San Francisco, he looks better than he ever did. He weighs 210 pounds, he doesn’t drink hasn't smoked for four years. He is 29 years old and would be enjoying the best year of baseball if he had not gotten himself involved in a baseball scandal back in 1924. Jimmy is the baseball player who confessed he offered Heinie -Sand, Philly shortstop, $500 “not to bear down too hard” in the crucial series between the Phils and Giants, When he made his confession to Judge Landis he involved “Cozy” Dolan, Glants' coach; Frankie Frisch, George Kelly and Ross Young. All but O'Connell and Dolan were found | blameless. These two from baseball. were firel A year ago Judge Landis refused O'Connell a chance to get back. He is now driving a truck between Iort Bayard and the railroad station for the government.
