NOMINATE MANGAN 'FOR PROBATE POST Democratic Candidate Expresses | Hope Rival Will Recover Accepting the democratic nomina- tlon for-judge of prdbate, proffered him by delegates representing this city and Berlin, Judge Willlam F. Mangan last night referred to Attor- ney General B. W. Alling, the repub- lican nominee, ag “a long time ac- quaintance and friend, whose speedy return to complete health is a wish that comes from the bottom of my heart.” Nominatéd by Attorney Elias T. Ringrose at a convention at the Bur- ritt hotel_presided over by Attorney JUDGE W. F. MANGAN P. F. McDonough, Candidate Man- gan was escorted to the convention room by a committee headed by Mi- chadl T. Kerwin. With an expression of deep appre- ciation, the judge accepted the nom- ination. , Then he spoke of his rival, Judge Alling, explaining that Alling's illness prompted him _ to refrain from a lengthy speech of acceptance. Reciting éxperiences in probate mat- ters in the courts of this district and elsewhere, Judge Mangan said he has reproseated litigants in courts as high as the supreme court of the state of Connecticut and that he felt that by disposition, education and experience he is fitted to fill the po- sitlon of judge in a manner that will satisfy the district. In his speech of nomination, At- torney Ringrose told of Judge Man- san's experience on the police court bench hers and of his success as an attorney in general practice. He expressed a conviction that the nom- inee, if successful at the polls, will continue the office of probate judge in the dignified manner that it has béen conducted under Judge B. F. Gaffney. He lauded Judge Mangan as.an advocate of sports and told of personal characteristics which, in his* opinion, point to the proper background for a judge of probate. fter the convention, the dele- gates were guests of Judge Mangan at dinner.
