& . URAINIAN CHURCKH | UNDER NEW PASTOR Rev. Alexander Nizankowsky Delivers First Sermon Here Rev.. Alexander Nizankowsky of Beymour took up his duties yester- day as pastor of St. Mary's Ukrain- {an church on Winter street to suc- ceed Rev. P. J. Pashkiewych, who was indicted on a perjury charge in connection with an investigation of sacramental wine withdrawals and whose resignation became effective August 1. Rev. Father Nizankowsky, who is temporarily acting as pastor of a| congregation in Seymour, until a hew pastor is signed, is expected to move into the rectory, which is ad- Jacent to the church, tomorrow, providing the former pastor vacates | e rectory as he has promised to do, church officials stated. Due to the fact that Rev. Father Pashkiewych has not received an- other appointment as pastor he was allowed to remain here for the past week, officials said, but the rectory must be vacated for the new pastor by tomorrow. / The trial of Rev. Father Pashkie- wych was scheduled to take place today in New York on the perjury | charge ‘but Nikifor Nostin, chairman | of the board of trustees, stated that | he was to appear’before a grand | jury next Thursday in New York. | New Pastor Is Composer | Coming to this country from Uk- | rainia shortly after his ordination, Rev. Father Nizankowsky devoted much of his time to composition of music which also held an interest for other mambers of the family. He is a member of a distinguish- ed Ukrainian family which includes | & judge, a lawyer and three clergy- | men. Both of his grandfathers were also clergymen and he is the only member of the family who makes | his home in this country. | About a year ago he received the pastorate of the Seymour church and during that time a new curch and #chool were built for the congrega- tion. A new hall was ‘the newest ftructure in the building program under his administration. The pastor, who left last night for | Eeymour, delivered his first sermon | yesterday morning at the local | church and conducted his first | masses.
