Speaking of Sports There is a movement on foot in New Britain among the little bani of men who work as umpires at bascball games in this city to or- ganize an association which will be similar in a great many respects 10 the board of basketball officials. Tt will, it is understood, be a New Britain affair entirely. The ociation would tend to protect both the umpires and th bascball managers who would hire them to work at their games. It would be a source where efficient arbiters could be secured and woull be a central organization through which efficiency in arbiting at ba: ball games in this city, would be a sured the fans. Nothing, spoils game as quickly a This is whether it be bask almost any sort of good poor officiating. truc n any line of sport tball. football - a game. It the thing progressed fas enough, the association would te iron bound with memberships ba- ing issued each year and tests be- ing made to tind out if candidates would be ecligible from their knowi- cdge of the game, to work as aa official. Whether the mat will ever be brought to a head or not remain to be seen, but many of those inter- ested in the project are in favor of calling a meeting of umpires at any t.me to discuss the project and th> possibility of having a board of uni- pires in this city.
