BOOTH APPEARS AS BEST PLAYER X-Ray Reveals Tt Leg Back in Normal Condition Again New York, April 10 (P—Albie Booth, the quarterback, as a model college athlete, has a rival. It is Albie Booth the shortstop. That doesn’'t mean that Shortstop Booth means as much to Yale as Quarterback Booth. But the impression was gained in {yesterday's Yale-Columbia baseball zanie here that Booth was the best player in the Blue lineup, and he might qualify as the best ball player on the field. He scems to thrive on this daring procedurc though and the whacks he got on the gridiron and then on the basketball court, where he ex- perted at forward, has developed what looks like a bigger and better Booth. Tt wasn’t Booth who said so, but it was learned from the bench that an X-ray taken the other day show- muscle was torn last fall, |normal condition. The way he pivoted on several slick double play maneuvers before the game indicated that his under- pinnings are sound They must be, for Albie, himself, !snappcd a sort of half-cmphatic “yes” when the question was put to him. That was about the extent of his loquacity. Here is a complete text of the in- terview: “Is your left leg in good shape, is in ny “How's your “The same.” “Do you prefer stop?” “Uh, huh.” Some of his mates on the bench filled in on the weight subject and helsaid he was about five pounds as|Deavier than he was last fall, when he came in at about 145. The Yale boys suggested Albie was @ bit more reticent than usyal be- cause of the hazing he took on the |southern training tour, which cul- {minated in the game with Columbia. Kids, reporters and old men kept him surrounded for the full ten days and he even had the rare ex- perience of being razzed for an er. ror or two. They were chiding Albie down at Annapolis, when Yale played the Navy. Whereupon the tiny one drew a base on balls and then stole second and third on the next two pitched balls. Booth bats second, dees a heavy share of coaching at third base and smacks the ball like a professional. His specialty yesterday was grab. bing a towering fly blown about by a terrific wind. Albie trapped it with lis hands close to his uniform—just &s Rabbit Maranville would have done, and it didn’t look at all bad by comparison. weight 2" to vplay short- | en | Al to he | of | he he WILL MEET FORMER CHAMPS SATURDAY American Brass Co. Basketball Team of Waterbury Op- poses Locals in Semi-Final of State Tournament — Took Title Last Season—Had Little Trouble in Dis- posing of Meriden Last Week — Bridgeport and New Haven clash at 4 o’Clock—Final Contest at The hardest kind of opposition is expected by the Corbin Screw from the American Brass Co. basketball team of Waterbury, the quintet that stands between the Screw Shop five and the finals in the state industrial basketball tournament. The game will be played at the Stanley Arena Saturday afternoon. ‘Waterbury's representative in the tournament had little trouble in de- feating the Meriden team in Water- bury last week. The Meriden team included such well known players as Kocin and Koski, the famed Meri- den Community and St. Stanislaus forward combination and J. and E. Theisen, guards on the Community team. The Brass City team won the state championship last year and the followers of the Waterbury team are confident that the quintet will repeat its performance. The Amer- ican Brass team has on its roster players who have made appearances in this city on many occasions. Among them are Daly, Dunn, Wall, Fruin and Stavitsky. Four of these players were in the lineup of the ‘Washington Hill team of Waterbury that was defeated by the National Guard quintet early this season. If New Britain is successful in de- feating Waterbury in the afternoon, it will play the winner of the Bridgeport and New Haven game at 9 o'clock Saturday night. This con- test will be played at 4 o'clock, an hour after the New Britain-Water- bury game. The winner of the Corbin Screw- American Brass game will be crowned champion of narthern Con- necticut. New Britain has never won the state industrial champion- ship but there are high hopes that it will accomplish the feat this year. It is probable that Joe Luke, who was {ll when the Corbin Screw team played in Waterbury last Saturday, will be ready for service this Satur- day. He will substitute at forward. The rest of the team is: Joe Lut center; Andy Yakubowicz and Char- ley Baker, forwards; “Hank” Ar- burr and “Hammy” Darrow, guards, Dan Ahern will probably be ref. eree and Clyde Waters till be um- pire. Saturday Night Preliminary Stanley Rule and the J. J. Wol- jcott Co., of Waterbury will play in the preliminary game Saturday night. Both were runners-up in the New Britain and Waterbury leagues. IN FINAL CONTEST Washington Senators Face the Braves Again After Having Won Four Out of Five Games. Richmond, Va., April 10 (®)—- Having scalped the Braves in four of their scheduled five game serles, the Senators faced the Boston tear: today for the final contest. While Manager Johneon was in Washing- ton with his injured son, Acting Pilot Joe Judge named Garland Braxton to do the pitching. The score of yesterday's took on football preportions the Nats on the long end of a 19-13 slugfest. Forty hits were made during the game, including six homers by Goslin, Myer, Moore ani Ruel for the Senators, and two for Jimmy Welsh of the Bostonjans. game 'OUR BGARDING HOUSE j How Do Yod Do!
