Stringency Temporary While some of the conservative commissien houses continued to urge caution in the making of new commitments because of the possi- bility of another drastic “money pinch” in the next few days, there was a rather general feeling that the stringency was temporary, and that easier credit conditions would pre- vail before the middle of July, De- spite recent unofficial intimations that there had been no change in Federal Reserve credit policy, Wall Street believes that a relaxation ia inevitable before the crop harvesting season is in full swing. ‘While the day's buying opera. tions were rather selective in char- acter, the chemical, public utiligy, merchandising, can’ and railroad shares all gave fairly good demon- strations of group strength. Profit- taking developed in some of the re- cent atrong apots, but there were no outstanding points of weakness. General Electric Advances General Electric advanced 11 points to 311.
