Suit for 370 was brought by Stan- ley Lejkowaki against Alex and Anastasia Gajewski and Stanley pKrupp. Property on Magnolia street has been attached by Deputy Sherift Matthew Papciak. Attorney M. F. e Stempien represents the plaintiffs. Thoustnds of New Britain Poles From Allocted Province The province of Vilna, Poland, now suffering from famine as a re- sult of the unusually cold winter and failure of the flax crop, was the birthplace of thousands of New Eritain Poles, and many residents of this city have members of their families in the stricken area. & * Mots of those who came here from Poland were residents of the northern portion of that country, and it is in this district that the shortage of food is being feit the most. Dzisna and Glembokie, in particular, dre stricken. Marshal Pilsudski has hastened to these provinces to direct the relief agen- cies of the government, now taking care of 30,000 residents of Dzisna alone. Meanwhile the reliet work is being extended northerly. The famine has affecf®d the entire province of Vilna. The misfortunes of the district started last year after a bad harvest of flax, which is' the country's principal product. The population of Dzisna and Glembokie has always been poor and has lived on potatoes and bread, eating meat and eggs on such exceptional oc- casions as weddings, christenings, Christmas and Easter. The bad flax harvest of last year did not permit of adequate provi- sions of grain and potatoes and as far back as the month of March famine was apparent. The_govern- ment aid must continue since the number of families with exhausted food provisions is increasing, and no hope is held out for relief in the way of crops until the latter part of July. As far as could be determined to- day, there are no New Britain tour- ists now in the Vilna region.
