Bassette, is again sponsoring a literary contest and though the announcements are scarcely out of the press the interest and enthusiasm among the members is keen. The club offers a prize of 325.00 for the best short story not e words. -A sccond prize of $15.00 is also offered. The same awards are to be made for the best one-act play. The contest closes on the 15th of October when all stories and plays must be in the hands of Mrs. John H. Kirkham of 40 Lexington street. Arthur Kim- bail and a corps of his friends and fellow members were responsible for the party which offered as the piece de resistance eight skits contrasting the period of today with that of long ago. A riot of color in costumes and settings added to the galety of the party. Harriet Parker, Mar- jorie Galpin and Mrs, Donald Mc- Millan as the belles of olden days were a lovely group in their quaint old dresses. Mrs. Donald Gaffney, Mrs. Earl Van Buskirk and Mrs, Stanley Hart, as the dream girls ol vears past made a beautifulpicture in the ruffles and laces of the 90's, Mrs. Harold Hatch was a very lovely lady in pink organdie; her costume was one of the most, If not the mOSt | eth " and a party of gorgeous scen that night. Mrs. Sturman Dyson, Mrs. Stanton Ashlcy, Mrs. Merrick Hillyer and Virginia Humphrey were all very lovely in the evening mede of to- day—modern to their fingertips, as well as beautitul and graceful.
