BLODGETT AGAINST PENALTY TAX CUT Reluses to Budge in Conlerence With Loomis and Others (By ald Reviewer) Hartford. March 26—State Commissioner Willlam H. Tax Blodgett #aid this morning, after conferring with Tax Collector Bernadotte Loomis, Senator Ernest W. Christ and Representative Thure Bengtson, all of New Rritain, that he was not yet convinced that the proposed re duction of penalty tax from 12 to 9 por cent is a good move. He did say. however, that some- thing will be done some day. but wa not prepared to say when that day would come. It is understood that most citics and towns of the state have had their legislative represen. tative argue the matter with the state commissioner, but he has not budged an inch from his stand. It was rcported after the confer- ence that New Dritain, for the past two years, has been backward in re- ducing back taxes, which does not compare favorably with the en- deavor of other communities. Pressed for information, Commis- sioner Blodgett answered: “Letl's see Loomis’ answer, and then I'll make & statement.” Collector Loomis does not quc tion the accuracy of the claim that the city's back tax list is growing, but was upable to account for the condition, he said today. On March 1, 1 there was ¢ 17 in uncollected taxes and on the first day of this month, $316.452.19 stood on the books. Dif- ficultics on the part of property own- ers in meeting their fax accoun was pointed 1o as one of the con- tributing causes, uy was also the fact that the amount to be collected is growing ecach year, and the delin- quents can be expected to proportionately WOMEN PRESIDE N SENATE AND HOUSE (Continued from First Page) vides for the settlement of disputos. cnator Peasley said this hill virtual- Iy codifies and puts into writing the procedurc, making solid provisions which put entire regulation into the Lands of the courts.
