Speaking of Sports Last night was an epic night for New Britain sports as the basket- ball team and the hockey quintet both came through with victories over dangerous and wide-awake op- ponents. The roller hockey squad did an excellent job against Albany and showed complete superiority in last night's game. The entire team play- ed a whale of a game especially in the defensive positions and the re- ward was victory. With Steve Pierce covered, Albany is nearly helpless. Down in Meriden, the Endees found the New Britain basketball team putting up a defense that was absolutely impenetrable. The Silver City contingent was forced to toss | all of its shots from the far dis- tances. These didn't register as often as they might have. Near the end of the game the players were not only missing the rim, they were failing to hit the backboard. This was due to the dogged guarding of the New Britain team. 101— 310 103— 293 — 88 85— 257 98— 203 $8— 267 Nelaon Rission Lipets Fillion DeColvin 475—1413 uist 5 88— 268 e ot 29— 280 92— 280 18— 307 | 108— 321 Gran; G Chataneuf | Burnham | Casella s05—1452 104— 286 98— 215 80— 251 100— 316 109— 292 Gulftney | Pascoe | Wheeler | Savio | Joe i 491—1420 Riemer Mazzalt Stohl .. | Peterson . Better still, they did it against the Yankees. Freddy Ma;uire at second base once more led all the rest.
