The church auditorium was filled Nationality groups, done in cos- tume, were a feature. These groups consisted of Scotch, Spanish, Irish, Italian, English and Swedish; and there also were Negro spirituals. A male quartet, a female chorus with the addition of two male voices, and coloists combined to present the pro- gram. In the Scotch group George Ward substituted for Josephine Tommasoni who had a severe cold. The other vocalist in this group was Olive Ward. Milton Magnuson, tenor, fol- lowed with “The Lassle Who Loves Me Still." The male quartet, consisting of Mr. Magnuson, Arthur Johnson, Mr. Ward and Walter R. Falk, sang sev- eral Negro spirituals, of which “Goin to Shout" was regarded as the best. George Ward sang that old favor- ite “In Old Madrid,” in the Spanish group. The female chorus followed with two Irish numbers, of which “The Lass With the Delicate Air” pleased greatly. At this point Mrs, Gooby played an organ solo. A chorus of considerable fame fol- | lowed in “The Miller's Wooing,” by "aning. The male part was effectlv ly given, Mr. Falk doing especially well with his solo in this chorus. Miss Tommasoni, who could not sing in her earlier number because of a cold, accepted the challenge in the Itallan group and considering her physical condition gave a cred- itable rendition. There were more Negro spirituals. by the male quar- tet, “Were You There?" being most enjoyed. The male quartet followed with the Marseillaise, with organ accom- niment, but did not put much rench vigor into it. Evelyn Reffelt achieved quite a triumph for herself in the English group, singing *Love Has Eyes.” Miss Reffelt has many admire believe she will become a star sing- or and last night she gave evidence that she is progressing rapidly. The female chorus in thia group sang appropriate selections from England, among which “Old King Cole” was stirringly done. “O Hush hee My Baby” was also pleasing. In the Swedish group Lillian Jo- sephson and Mr. Falk provided v riety with a duet, singing “The Morning Dew is Falling.”” Their voices blended well, they are both pleasing singers, and the effect was pleasing to all. The “Star Spangled Banner” com- pleted the program, the first stanza being sung by Mr. Falk, the second by Miss Josephson, and all joined in .
