Hartford, March ¢ M—Edward J. Fleming, motorman employed by the Connecticut Company, was suspend- ed from duty pending an investiga- tion of the trelley car collision at Main and Charter Oak avenue In which over a score of persons were injured yesterday, Nathaniel J. Scott manager of the Hartford division of the trolley company announced to- day. Fleming, it is alleged, ran over an open switch to the left while pro- ceeding south on Main street and collided head-on with a north hound Middletown trolley. Manager Scott ascribed the cause of the col- failing to observe that the switch was open. Fleming stated that the switch was open for south bound traffic as he approached it. Today the switch is being tested to determine if a south bound car could “throw" the switch and divert a trolley across the north bound tracks. John A. Kiely, local superintendent, is con- ducting the investigation. There is no material change in the condition of the injured persons, according to hospital reports this morning.
