As he was being lock- ed up, the officers asked him why he had broken the window in the restaurant and he replied “because I don’t like him,” meaning the pro- prietor, Boyle, who was fined $10 and costs for intoxication in police court yesterday, was arrested last evening by Detective Sergeant W. P, McCue. Jones was arrested by Oficer Mau- rice Flynn and Coyle was arrested by Sergeant John C, Stadler. Al pleaded not guilty and after Officer Malona testified, Vamvakis told of the scuffie and named Cook as the porson who broke the winow. Cook was not in court. Boyle picked up a sugar bowl but did not throw it and the others milled about, push- ing the witness and pulling him by the coat, according to the testimony. Cook punched him in the face but the others did not lay & hand on bhim except to push him. Peter Lamflous, counterman, and his wife, Sophie, corroborated Vam- vakis. Lamfious served coffee to the quartet, he said, and they paid for it, but there was considerable swear- ing and a general disturban The restaurant was opened the day be- foro the fracas, but the same own- er had a similar business at another address on Hartford avenue, and ac- URGES TRAHERS 10 Rflkfll UP-T0-DATE Cleveland School ml ‘Wants Modish Thought and Attire Cleveland, Feb, 26 (P—R. G. Jones, superintendent of Cleveland achools, wants his teachers to be modish in thought and attire. Health and poise he lists as important, sec- ond only to training and education. Pupils mut be at ease to get the moat out of their classwork, the superintendent believes, and the best to bring that about is to &ive m an attractive, well- dressed, poised and capable teacher. “We want our teachers to keep abreast of the times,” Jones aald. “If a teacher can wear short akirts becomingly, she should wear them. And nobody, least of all myself, will complain if there is rouge and lipstick in her purse.” Without good health a teacher is likely to be {ll-natured, unable to control herself and may keep the class room in a turmoil, Miss Jean Burroughs, a student In the achool of education, is Jones' idea of an ideal teacher. Cecilla Sholle was his choice for good health, and Alleen Mannenin as an ideal type because of her good na- ture and fair mindedness, POLICEMAN SAVES CHILD Pittsfield, Mass.,, Feb. 26 P — Sergeant Willlam J. Judge Traceski asked him it he had told the police he had tak- en part in the fracas because he did not like the restaurant proprietor. he said he did not recall having made such a remark. “You seem to have a very convenient memory,” Judge Traceski remarked. Coyle sald he was under the in- fluence of liqguor Sunday evening and he would not have been in the restaurant but for the fact that someone told him that Cook should be taken out of the place. He went in to get him and while there he had coffce but he did not swear at anyone, nor did he cause a racket. “I'd like it better if you'd tell the truth,” Judge Traceski said. *“Now there was bad language used in there, wasn't there?” and Coyle re- plied that he *guessed” there was. Jones sald he had been drinking Sunday and he was somewhat un- ruly. He admitted that he swore in the restaurant but he was eject- ed before the trouble started. Acting Prosecuting Attorney Har- ry M. Ginsburg said there was no question about the breach of the peace count. Judge Traceski replied that the evidence did not implicate the trio in the breaking of the win- dow but the other charge had been proven to his satisfaction.
