Pk R MISS SALLY A. ROWLEY Miss Rowley’s engagement to Robert Judd Bertini was announced at a bridge party given last Saturday afternoon, Social Activities About Gown Lenten Season Starts Off In Holiday Spirit With Ash Wednesday and St. Valentine’s Day Falling in Same Week—USual Round of Smaller Bridges, Teas and Luncheons. 'HERE is evidence of the waning fashionable season which has kept society on the go since the last days of October. This is particularly noticeable aside from the falling off in the way of large dancing parties, by the infrequent dinner invitations and the fact that they now are issued very near to the date. There is no more of what in some society are termed “the long distance” invitations for such important events. Prepara- tions of dinner lists for the weeks recently past were started early in December and some of them were sent out many days in advance. * ® * 'HERE remains before Ash Wednesday a trifle less than one week when all the gay life of society is supposed to cease and for the next six weeks as far as really large events go this will be true. Socially speaking, things will be quiet. Sometimes the members do the sewing them- selves; often the work is relegated to seamstresses, but the nain point is that it is done. Which is altogether something. Of course the most popular Lenten diversion is to hie away. o some other place, preferably abroad and that is just what rany social registerites are doing at present. * » *! 'HE exodus for Florida and for ether points south continues on the increase and steamships bound for the Mediter- wean or for trips around the world are all filled. Bermuda is wing a banner season, especially right now when many folks ake the trip in time to attend the famous Black and White all which for many years has been the high light at the Hotel {amilton, * * LD Saint Valentine makes his annual visit this week and decorations at the various festive functions partake of the hearts and darts motif, always associated with the four- teenth of February.
