Stanley Works Fafnirs ....... Corbin Cabinet. P. & F. Corbin B. Machine. . 2 Russwin Landers | | | | | The biggest upset of the scason in the men's Industrial basketball league took place last night at the Tabs' hall when the Landers team which has held last place without winning a game up until last night, crashed through with its first vic- tory of the season over Corbin Cab- inet Lock. When the final whistie sounded the Universals were ahead 31 to 26. Russell & Erwin made a serious bid for victory in the last game of the night but Corbin Screw was too much for it and victory went to the league-leaders, 30 to °7. Landers Holds Edge Although Corbin Cabinet Lock had the upper hand in the first three minutes of the game, Landers went into the lead 5 to 4 on a basket by Preisser. The lead changed in Cab- inet's favor 6 to' 5 on O'Toole's fleld goal but Landers came back and | again took the lead when Chotkow- ski made a fleld goal. He was foul- ed in the act of making the basket and he made the two chances good | giving his team a lead of 9 to €. Landers increased the lead and the score was 16 to 11 at half time, Corbin Cabinet came back strong in the second half but the team's scoring guards, Larson and Yankas- kas were not having thelr night and they failed to score when their team needed points. This together with the fact that Captain Phil Walthers. the team’s leading scorer, was not on hand was a handicap. When it began to look as it Cab- inet was going to break into the lead “Chick” Charlow, Landers’ hard-working forward, would break through and score. Cabinet camc within three points or a tle with nine minutes to go but Charlow put them back five points. Then the Cabinet quintet came within four points of a tle, 24 to 20 with six minutes to go and Charlow again dribbled down and scored. With the acore 31 to 21, Larson and Stohl made five points hetween them but the game ended before anything else could be done. Although Charlow was Again the star of the Landers team, every one of the team pluyed w fine game. The friends of “Dick” Dunn said he could not fail to achieve success. He has heen in the sports business since knee pants days. He is the son of John P. bunn, old promoter of the Coney Island Sporting club, a success 30 years ago. “Dick” worked for Rickard in the old and new Garden. Ho has achieved success in Detroit by turn- ing the Olympin arena from a flop into & thriving business enterprise, ‘When Dunn became manager of the arena about a year ago It was a losing venture. Within 12 months Dunn took in $400,000 on Arena boxing contests. He also developed hockey and other sports as major attractions. The young promoter started de- livering press notices for his father. He was 12 years old. Next he was with P. T. Powers and Harry Pol- lock, promoters of six-day bicycle races. Before Rickard came to the Garden, Dunn was a telephone operator in the superintendent's oftice.
