MISS IRENE WELCH Miss Welch will be maid of honor at the wedding of her sister, Miss Mary Welch to William Meehan, which takes place Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s church, Social Activities About ‘Gown Continual Round of Gaiety Crowds Social Calendar— Kimball Party Gorgeous Affair—Common- wealth Club to Present Bennett Doty —D. A. R. Meeting Yesterday. NEW BRITAIN social circles are still agog over the marvel- 5 ously successful Mexican Fiesta which Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kimball gave for the smartest of local society folk lagi Saturday evening at the Shuttle Meadow club. Certainly there was-never a more representative gathering of the leaders of the city’s devotees of gaiety. The elect was present in the most colorful of costumes. Surely the country ¢lub has never been more completely and convincingly transformed into any scene at all, let alone the exotic tropical atmosphere which was gained by the liberal use of scenery, plants and flowers. There were expressions of admiration at the ensemble and pleasure in the gathering in such volume as is seldom heard. In order that there might be no jarring note in the whole evening, no occurence that might for a few moments only remind the guest that he was surrounded by the snow and ice and hills of New England, the Kimballs took great pains to see that every little detail of music, settings and entertainment was absolutely in keeping with the location. Even the food was prepared by the hands of skilled native Mexicans, living in New York and rushed to this city by truck. The Kimball party has passed into history as an achieve- ment and a source of great pleasure. It will be a memory for some time to come for those fortunate enough to be present. x 2 - EVER has a weck been more gay. There have been parties and parties. It almost seems like a revival of the olden days was in prospect with everyone hurrying to make a clearing house of their social obligations before the penitential season arrives, which by the way is not far off, with Ash Wednesday falling on the 13th. As a diversion from the continual round of theater parties, dinners and luncheons which filled society’s program this week, Mrs. George Kimball instituted an “innovation” with the mid- night tea which she gave last night in honor of Mrs. Wilbur Gilbert. The guests were invited at the unusual tea hour of nine o'clock and remained until after twelve. They were seated informally areund the dining table from which canapes, sand- wiches, cakes and coffee were served. A 'HOSE members of society who have remained in New Britain for the late winter social season are not foregoing the pleasures of winter sports. The Shuttle Meadow club is the scene of innumerable skating parties these days. Real young folks flock to the pond at all hours while the older set is more in evidence in the morning or at night, when a skating party follows gay dinner gatherin; Some of the more ardent enthu- siasts have found tobogganing over the golf course no mean sport, skiing too, is popular and for the less ardent followers a hike over the links presents a pleasant prospect. TH the local clubs the annual mecting of the Common- ‘x J1 wealth club is perhaps the most important event, especial- ly when it becomes known that Bennet J. Doty is to be the speaker of the evening. Mr. Doty is the author of “The Legion of the Damned” and has chosen for his subject “My Life with the Foreign Legion.” A record breaking attendance is assured al the Flks club next Wednesday night where Mr. Doty's talk 1l follow the regular club dinner which is for members and their guests.
