NORTHCOTT ADMITS " MURDERING FIVE: Ruthorities Search for Corrobo- Tuting Evidence in Calilornia Riverside, Cal, Dsc. ¢ UP— Gerdoen Stewart Nerthoett's reperted confession that nine beys were mis. geated and slain on the Nerthcott o er farm” ‘near here, and that himself committed five of the murders, teday sen( prosecuting rities on an intensive hunt for corroborating evidence. Taken frem jail in Les Angeles yesterday to the scene of the al. leged crimes on his promise that he “might” lead officers to the spot where evidence of the killings exist. ed, Investigators announced North. cott made a signed confession of the murder of Alvin Gothea, a Mexican youth. Incobercnt Story “They said he then related a some- what incoherent story of the murder of eight other small boys on or the farm, in four of which he the killer. Higyvictims, he said, w: Gethea, Walter Collins, Louis Wins- low, & boy named Richard and a youth whose name he did not know. ‘The 22 year old Canadian declared rd Clark, his 15 year old killed Nelson Winslow, twin of Louis. He declined to name the other boys he claimed were killed on the chicken farm, and refused to say who was responsible. ‘Weird Tale “If you ever get certain members of my family to talk,” Northcott told the officers, “you will hear one of the most weird tales you ever listened to. Believe me, officers, that chicken ranch was a butcher shop.” Northcott's confessions were made orally before a group of guards, sheriffs and dep:ty district attor- neys whom he led into the Mojave desert 20 miles northeast of San Bernardino in scarch of the charred body of Gothea, Northcott previous- ly had admitted decapitating the youth whom he identified by name for the first time yesterday. He said he burrfed the head and then took the body to Puente, Cal, where he burned and buried it. Northcott had evinced fear of Los Angeles where he had been held and ) began his story only after the officers promised him in writing to take him to Riverside for arraign- ment. ¥rank H. It is & relief to tell everything. For the past three weeks I have realized that I must tell or go 1.ad. It wasn't so bad up there in Canada, but,—well, the minutes the train entered Cali- forma I knew it wouldn't be long before 1 told about everything.” He hinted that another member of his family other than his mother, Mrs. S8arah Louisa Northcott, who is held in Calgary, was involved in the crimes. Before making the written confession he threatencd his father, Cyrus Nerthcott, with “telling cverything.” Northcott told the officers that he had erected an improvised altar at | the ranch and that he had forced | cach of his victims to say his pray- ers before killing them. He said he cried as he and roung Clark buried Walter Collins. He accused young Clark of also mistreating the vic- tims. POLICE SUMMONED BY WORCESTER COUNCIL Troyble Feared When Democrats Are Accused of Hoover Parade Riot Worcester, Mass, Dec. 4 (P— Four _police officers were rushed from headquarters to the Common council chamber last night when serious trouble was feared because of the bitter language used by cert- ain democratic mémbers in their caustic attucks on Axel U, Sternloff, a republican councilman who at a previous meeting, during the two months absence of the democratic member on strike, had charged the democratic par.; with the responsi- HEALTH FOUND IN vicieus attack on the Hoever party in Worcester the night of November The trouble started after President Royal had ruled as out of order a resolution offered by Charles E. There are signs that some of the Hoover members of the party pre- fer to leave the farm relief problem to his administration entirely, feel- ing that this was a vital part of his campaign and that he will be held completely responsible with its dis- position.
