GOVERNNENT HAS CHARTERED ‘SUB Simon Lake's Boat to Be Used by United States Bridgeport, Dec. 4 (UP)—Word was recelved at the offices of Lake and Danenhower, Inc.,, here from Washington today that the govern- ment has chartered the submarine rescue boat “Defender” for tests next month, The information was sent by Cap- tain Sloan Danenhower, who is su- perintending refitting of Simon Lake's 17-year-old submersible with unique rescue and safety devic Danenhower has been conferring with navy officials this week. He said the S-4, upon which the De- ender will demonstrate its devices, will be ready about Dec. 10. The Defender will be ready for deep cater work in about two weeks. Tests Soon Danenhower's message revealed that the first tests in which the two underwater boats will partic e will take place in Block Islan: Nound instead of off the Virginia capes as had previously been an- uounced.
