PARKS ON HIGHWAY PAYS S27 N COLRT New Britain Man's Car Unlight- ¢d, Constable Tells Newington, Nov. 20.—Mawry Com- pisi of 556 Main street, New Britain, who was arrested by Constable John Walsh last week and was to have been tried in court Saturday night. but did not appear for trial pleaded guilty in court last night before Judge Barrows, to the charge of parking a motor vehicle without lights on a public highway, and for not having his operator's license en- dorsed. On the former charge he was fined $3 and costs and the latter charge $5 and costs making a total of $27.97. ¥ he case was prosecuted by Grand Juror Harry A. Webater. Brother Against Brother-in-Law The case of Barney Johnson of Roberts street Elm Hill, against his brother-in-law, John Johnson of the game address, the former bringing eviction proceedings against the latter, was heard before Judge E. Stanley Welles in Newington court last night. According to Barney Johnson, his brother-in-law came ‘o live with him about 14 months ago. He was to board Barney and give him $5 a month and also have the use of the Roberts street house. He admitted that his brother boarded Tim, but never paid him any money. Mrs. John Johnson claimed that when living in Hartford they wer: induced to leave their Hartford resi- dence, to live in the Roberts street house, and to live there as long.as they wished to. and to furnish Bar- ney with board. This testimony ¥as corroborated hy another sister and a brother who stated that when Barney Johnson obtained-a divorce from his wife Re did not wish to live alone and stated it was a dirty trick to try to evict them after they had broken up their home in Hart- ford When asked by Judge Mangan why they did not obey the eviction papers when served on them. they stated they could not afford to move, having sold their kitchen stove and other articles of furniture, nnd said they thought Rarney should heln them to move, buy a new stove #nd set.them up In housekeeping elsewhere. At thils time a real estate opera- tor of Newington stated that he thought he might have a solution to New lssue Initial Offering their problem, and would offer them a month’s rent free if they would care to take a rent from him. Barney Johnson recently remar- ried his divorced wife. After the marriage he was approached by his brother-in-lJaw who wanted to know where they stood in regards to the rent and was told it would make no difference, that he would get a rent in the city or elsewhere if necessary. In summing up the case Judge Welles stated that the law was very clear and that any owner had a right to possess his own home re- gardless of any promises. He ren- dered judgment in favor of Barney Johnson, but suspended execution for two weeks. Speeder Fined Harrly Levine, 19, of New Britain, pileaded guilty to speeding on Main street. He was arrested Saturday by Constable Raymond Halleran who stated he was making 45 miles an hour and had followed him along Cedar street, Main street’and over- took him at Stoddard avenue, near the quarry. Levine was represented by Attorney Yale 'Sable of New Brit- ain. Judge Wells fined him $10 and costs, remitting $5 of the fine. Fined for Parking Ernest Chamberlain of 234 Gar- den atreet, Hartford, who was ar- restad by Constahle Robert Dessel Sunday night at 9:30 on Dowd strcet pleaded guilty to the charge of parking a motor vehicle on the highway * without lights. He was fined $3.00 and costs of $14.91. Su oned to Court Paul Sin Edwin Backus and John Carrubba of New Britain have been notified to appear in town court Tuesday night to answer to the charge of violation of the fish and game laws. A special meeting of the Volun- teer Fire department will be held in the town hall. Wednesday evening Nov. 21 at 8:15 Mrs. Andrew Anderson who has been a patient at the Hartford hos- pital for the past nine weeks has returned to her home on Main street. Big Sale of Tickets . For High School Game The general sale of students’ tick- ets for the New Britain-Hartford High football game Saturday took place yesterday atternoon at the lo- cal high school. Long before the sale started the corridor which runs the length of the vocational building was crowded with students. Within 30 minutes after the sale had start- ed, the 1,200 tickets alloted for stu- dent were sold and many puplls were still waiting in line. Case Threshing Machine ran up points to 451, Radio 231 points to 355 arfd Greene Cananea Copper, Keith- Albee-Orpheum preferred, Liquid Carbonic, International Harvester, Johns Maaville, Woolworth, May Department Stores, Pittsburgh Coal and Standard Oil of California climbed 5 to 10 points, all touching new peak prices. Curtiss, Wright Allied Chemical, Victor Talking Ma- chine and Rossia Insurance soared highs. The rapidity of the advances in these issues indicated a marked scarcity in the floating supp a result of the excited public specula- tion of the last two weeks. Several of the large commission houses in- creased their margin requirements and sent cautionary advices over their wires in an effort to keep speculation wothin bounds. Wall |street was flooded with rumors that this or that stock was going to $200 $300 or $400 a ahare, and such ru- wmors veteran market observers in- variably regard as danger signals. Call money was in fairly plentiful {supply at the remewal rate of 61 per cent. One of the interesting features of i the day's advance was the increased buying in the atocks of the sugar {and textile companies, many of which are just emerging from peri- |icds of depression.
