BIND YOUTHS OVER FOR STEALING AUTO Two Chaim Stranger Tricked Them Info Taking Cer Judge W. F. Mangan, who wa9- peared in police court today for John Kolesky, aged 19, of 67 Hart- ford avenue, and John Chester, ali: John Cheskus, aged 22, of 85 Bel- den street, offered no objection to the finding of probable cause on the charge of theft of an automo- blle owner by Mortimer Sokol of 80 Grove Hill, and Judge M. D. Saxe bound them over to superior court, December term, in $2,000 bonds, After the testimony of the state and the stories of the young men were before the court, Judge Man gan sald the cases impressed him as fitting the charge of taking an automobile without permission of the owner rather than theft of a car, because the pair were headed back towards New Britain when they were arrested yesterday afte noon in Berlin. The lesser offense is also one meriting binding over, so Judge Mangan made no defense. Relative to the bond, Prosccuting Attorney J. G. Woods rc commended $2,500 in each case and Judge Man- gan suggested $1,000. Judge Saxe sald he would hear the defense counsel on a reduction of the bond in the event that the voung men were unable to raise $2,000. Kanupka Suspicious Constable George Kanupka of Berlin testified that he was driving in Berlin street yesterday afternoon and saw a car coming from the girection of Meriden, between Mid- dletown road and Farmington ave- nue. The young men told conflicti storles and the Berlin office brought them to New Britain police station, where Sergeants Ellinger and O'Mara questioned them. At about the same time, Sokol called at the police station to renort the theft of his car from lafay street, near Main street. He left it on the street about 1:20 in the afternoon and looked for it about 4 o'clock. He identified the car which the young men had, as hi: and he testified that Kolosky k""“f him and knew his car, which cost $1800 & year ago and had been driven only 8000 miles.
