'EACITED GAMBLER VARNED B COURT Powe Loer Crots Disturance - At Droping 38 o Die Judge M. D. Saxe in police court teday severely scored Sargis Kacha- devian, aged 48, of 307 East Main street, for patronizing gambling | places and then creating distur- bances on the street because he loses money. He has been arrested a| number of times for breach of the peace arising out of the same con- | ditions, Judge Saxe said, and the next time he is couvicted he will be siven a heavy fine. Kachadorian was arrested about 7 o'clock Wednesday evening by Of- ficer Patrick Meehan, and was re- feased in $40 bond for his appear- ance in police court yesterday, but| +he failed to present himself and the | bond was forfeited on order of| Judge Saxe. After court he demand- | ed that he be given a hearing and | today Prosecuting Attorney Wood consented to reopen the case, eras-| ing the bond forfeiture and putting him to plea. | Through Attorney A. S. Aharonian :a plea of not guilty was entered and | ,Offfticer Meehan related the facts to | Ithe court. He said he was detailed !to investigate a complaint that a| ‘disturbance was being caused at the | _corper of Elm and East Main street and he learned from Kachadorian | that he had been in a smoke shop | across the street from his cobbling ‘shop, and had lost $35 in a crap game, He was shouting and gesticu- | lating, accusing the smoke shop pro- | prietor of having made him drunk | and cheating him with the dice. The smoke shop proprietor denied the allegations but Kachadorian in- | |sisted that he be arrested. Officer .Meehan tried to calm him, but ‘without success, and finally was| ‘obliged to arrest him. Officer Har- | per was present at the time, Ofticer | Meehan said, the former having flashed his light through the window of Kachadorian’s abode when he failed to respond to knocks on the | door. Attorney Aharonian claimed that the state had failed to present suf- \Bicient evidence for a conviction, but 'Judge Saxe replied that the testi- {mony Indicated that a breach of the peace had been committed. Kacha- @orian took the witness stand and in jan excited manner demanded to know why the smoke shop proprie- /ter was not on hand. Judge Saxe in- terrupted to tell him he would be let off with a fine of §5 without costs this time, but he could con- 'sider it his last chance. Prosecuting JAttorney Woods said the older po- {(jeemen have had experience With ‘Kachadorian for a number of years, his specialty being to drink and ‘gamble and then shout and demand that someone be arrested. Attorney Aharonian called the court's attention to Kachadorian's temperament, and pointed out that the loss of his money in the dice game in addition to $40 which he almost lost by failing to be in court ‘yesterday in time excited him. He is married and his business s not iprofitable, the attorney said, and there was nothing of & scrious na- p ture about the breach of the peace. Carl Orasewski, aged 49, of 83 Orange street, pleaded guilty to the charge of breach of the peace and assaulting John Brumsteln of 170 Grove street on August 23, and was fined §35 and costs on recommenda- tion of Prosecuting Attoraey Woods. Brunstein, Orazewski and a third man were drinking on the night in question, Mr. Weods sald, and Ora- zewski struck Brunstein, who fell and broke his leg. Today he was limping, having been under treat- ment for his injury since it was sus- tained. AAttormey Martin F. Stem-. pien appeared for Orazewski, who is the father of seven children. Judge Saxe, accepting the recommendation of Mr. Woods, said he would take into consideration the fact that Brunstein in all probability was partly responsible for the fracas. Bruno Potash, aged 30, of 226 High street, pleaded guilty to the charge of drunkenness and said he did not remember anything about an assault on Martin Bergin of 15 Pearl Court. S8upernumerary Officers Joseph Curry and Charles Lesevi- czius testified that Potash was drunk on Broad street, near Washington, about 1:25 this morning and as Bergin and Adolph Hopt of the Doris apartments passed, Potash ized Bergin and punched him. A fine of $7 and costs was imposed on the drunkenness charge and judg- ment was suspended on the charge of assault. Frederick Glaforst, aged 49, of 368 Slater Road, pleaded not guilty to charges of driving without a reg- istration and operator's license and the case was continued until Mon- day. Officer Ernest P. Bloomquist made the arrest. A total of 2,976 languages spoken throughout the world is given by an expert from carefully compiled sta- tistics from the various countries. How Does Your Hat Look?
