'HERE is just one event that definitely fixes the arrivai of spring in accordance with the thermometer—if not the calendar—and that is the official opening day of the golf course at the Shuttle Meadow club, It takes place next week, And here's the place for cheers from the sport loving set, which comprises all society, for not to be an enthusiastic fan for sports labels one a back number. The excellent weather of the past week however, has afforded all sorts of opportunity to the out of dnors person and foremost among the sports has been golf. Despite the fact that the winter greens are still being used the course is remarkably fine and during the last few days has been especially popular. Rivaling the golf in attraction, have come numerous other outdoor events. The school set enjoying the Easter recess have found mid-day picnics a delightful source of amusement. Motor trips into the country followed by luncheon or tea at one of the popular roadhouses have added color and met the approval of the older set. Gardening too, is a main topic of interest just now, the vogue for rock gardens becomes increas- ingly popular. It is not unusual to drop in on your best friends | and find them out in the garden grubbing in the dirt. Indeed | a delightful pastime. The call of the outdoors is strong and for many weeks to come holds the center of interest. A pleasant season of golf and tennis matches, horse shows, dog shows, not | to mention the ball games is now in‘ sight, * * EDDINGS of course are a most important item and will continue in the lime light in increasing number through- out June, Easter week witnessing at least one each day with! the announcement of many important ones to come. There is | more than ordinary interest in the betrothal of Miss Martha | Clark, charming daughter of Robert E. Clark and Mrs. Clark to Stanley Lonsdale. Cordelia Kilbourne has recently an-| nounced her engagement to Charles A. Johnson.
