Schireson Denies Operation-on Sadie Holland Chicago, Feb. 3 (M—Blood trans- | * fusion, performed in an’attempt to save the life of Miss S8adie Holland, whose ‘legs were amputated when gangrene set in following a “beauty” operation, had resulted in & slight improvement in her condition today. Dr. Paul Magnuson performed - the transfusion yesterday after Miss Holland suffered & secondary + hemorrhage and her condition be- | came alarming. Miss Holland underwent an oper- ation several days ago in an effort to have her limbs, which she sald were slightly bowed, straightened. Dr. Henry J. Schireson, prominent surgeon, made both to authorities and to the press, that he had performed the operation. At a hearing yesterday he told || John W. Follmer, chief inspector for the state department of ' regis- tration and education, that an sistant, Dr. 8. D. Zaph, professor of surgery at the Chicago Osteopathic hospital, had operated on Miss Hol- || land. Dr. Schireson explained that he himself had removed & soar from Miss Holland's shoulder during the progress of the leg-straightening operation, and happened to be present. “But,” interrupted Charles Muel- ler, assistant state's attorney, “I un- derstood Dr. Zaph to state here Wednesday that you operated ana he assisted.” | “He operated,™ repeated Dr.| Schireson. “I had nothing to do with the leg operation.
