NEWINGTON NOTES POPULATION GAIN Residents Now Estimated at Be—[ tween 4,500 and 5,000 | | The population of the town of Newington has increased to an esti- mated total of the past year, almost 5,000 during ccording to the per- | sonal tax and school enumerations which wi mpleted yest by | Arthur O. A of Elm Hill. appointed man James C. Gi pointed school enumerator school board. The total number ot names on the personal tax list is 2,043, of which there are 320 excmpt, leaving 1, residents who are liable to the per- sonal tax. This constitutes an in- crease of more than 200 during the past year and about 500 for the | past two years. Mr. Ames' report of | the school enumeration shows a total of 1,120. This is only a small gain | over the t last year which was 1,0 It is est d that the populs of Newington is now between 4, and 5,000, or a gain of about 500 during the past year. These figures are arrived at through the total on both enumerations which is 3,168, This gives a known fig e and the | remainder must be estimated. To | this total is added children who do not attend school and residents who are over 60 years of age and there- fore not liable for a pereonal tax. This increase in the population of the fown is not surprising becau during the past year there have been | several land developments in varions parts of the towr 'he houses which | were erected on these tracts were | taken in the main by people from other fowns.
