WEW DRITAIN DAILY HERALD, FRIDAY, AUGUST 26, 1927. VAUCLAIN WINNING BALDWIN CONTROL Aged Financier Spry as 80; Is| | 77 ; 57 D , T = . Financial Genins | : : , 7 5 Philadelphia, Aug. 26 (P—The : SQA ‘VEEK ; Philadelphia Record says today that in a financial struggle to control the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Samuel M. Vauclain, president of the com- pany has won the first battle. Those seeking control, the paper says, are the Fisher Brothers of De- troit, who own the Fisher Bodies corporation and are heavily inter- ested in General Motors. Representing the Fisher Brothers, the paper says, are C. R. Bitting and . P. Shields of Detroit. Another ctor in the situation is A. W. Cut- ten, Chicago board of trade opera~ tor, who according to latest advices, is acting separately and not in con- junction with the Fishers, Bitting and Shields. s Cutten, Bitting and Shiclds are id to have accumulated 120,000 shiares of Baldwin common, a clear ority of the 200,000 outstanding shares. The Record then states that Bit- ting and Shields came to Philadel- phia Wednesday and conferred with Mr. Vauclain and Thomas §. Gates, chairman of the board of directors of the’ Baldwin company. It is sald they had proxies showing their own- ership of a controlling majority of the common stock. They returned to New York, it was said, Wednes- day night with the understanding that a directors’ meeting would not be held Thursday as a quorum could not be called together. “Overnight,” says the Record, “something happened. A quorum was summoned and met yesterday, Bitting and Shields) did not know anything about the meeting until it was over and the announcement was sent to New York that it had heen held.” Only “routine business” was tral cted, it was said. i The result of this meeting is to .
