ROAD AND BRIDGE CONTRACTS SIGNED Highway Dept. Awards Contract| Tor State Improvements Hartford, Aug. 25—According to announcement made by Highway Comfmissioner John A. Macdonald, contracts for eleven pleces of Con- necticut highway construction and three new bridges havé been award- ed to nine companies. Town of Woodbury, 13,820 feet of 3 inch waterbound macadam on a 5 inch broken stone base on route No. 154-Hotchkissville-Washington Road to Lawton Construction Co., for $75,887.40. Towns of New Milford and Sher- man, 14,350 feet of 8 Inch wat: bound macadam on route 120-the Webatcuk Road to Miller Bros Con- struction Co., Hartford, for $95.- 281.10. GIRL IS VICTIM IN MEXICAN RAID {Los Angeles School Teacher Severely Injured | Washington, Aug. 25 (—Mexlecan bandits “serfously wounded” Miss Florence Anderson, an American in |an attack Wednesday on a train 15 kilometers south of Acaponeta, Mex- ico, the state department was ad- vised today by J. Winsor Ives, vice- consul at Mazatian, | Miss Anderson was the only Am- !erican injured out of a party of 11 | although Ives placed the number of dead and wounded as high as 16. | Several hundred men participated in the holdup, which took place at 4 p. m. and more than 40 shots were fired, Ives reported.
