Second Section COOLIDGE HOST T0 SECRETARY DAVIS Receives Also Director Lord of the Budget Rapid City, . D, Aug. 12 (P— The steady stream of official callers which has been coming into the Black Hills this week continued again today with Secretary Davis of the labor department on the engage- ment list of President Coolidge. Director Lord, of the budget, also | was expected late today, and Eu- gene Meyer, chairman of the federal farm loan board, was another visi- tor on the president's list for today. Secretary Davis is the third cab- Inet member to come here this week, Secretarfes Wilbur and Work hav- ing preceded him. While he took off from Mooseheart, Ill, his sum- mer home, in an airplane yesterday to come to the summer White House, there was no indication here | that the president had anything urgent to take up with Mr. Davis. Mr. Davis is coming here in' re- sponse to an invitation extended to him by the president early in the summer when the secretary was at St. Paul. Mr. Meyer, who was made chair- chgairman of the federal farm loan board in the reorganization of that body earlier in the year by Mr. Cool- ldge, has been touring the west and there was some expectation that he might have some definite views on the talked of administration farm bill. It is known the administration contemplates a measure creating a tarm board with power to adminis- ter a fund of $300,000,000 as loans to farmers and cooperative market- ing associations. Director Lord brings with him the tentative estimate for next year's budget for submission to President Coolidge. On this budget will hinge to some extent the prospective tax reduction in sight for next year. Some conslderation is also expected to be given at this conference to the prospective relief which the federal government is to extend to the Mississippl flood suffeffrers. GETS HUSBAND EASILY London, Aug. 12 UP—A laundress can always get a husband, said Lady | Islington before the National Con- ference on = Maternity and Child ‘Welfare here. “It does not matter how ugly or ill-favored a laundress may be,” che sald. “She can always get a husbandg A man feels today that he must get a‘ wife who will keep his home together.” What Patrick Henry Ate to Be Told Modern Women | Washington, Aug. 12 (P®—Hand- | written cook books antedating the | Civil War and now in the possession ot Mrs. Nancy F. Munce of Vir- ginia, wil be incorporated in an Old-Fashioned Cook Book, to be published this summer by the Wo- man's National Democratic Club. Mrs. Munce inherited these recipe books from departed ladies of past generations who thought nothing of mentioning eggs by the ! dozen and cream by the quart. Most of them were handed down from mother to daughter for gen- erations by word of mouth or in | writing. One of the old books is called ! “Patrick Henry's cook book.” Al- though not actually his property, it | is composed of recipes of dishes used by his family and probably eaten by him many times. On the fly-leat, in faded, delicate writing is inscribed the statement that these recipes were “drawn off” at Red Hill, the Patrick Henry home in Virginia, by Mrs. Elvira M. Tay- lor, one of his direct descendants. British Admiralty Not Disappointed With Geneva Malton, England, Aug. 12 (A—W. C. Bridgeman, first lord of the Brit- ish admiralty, and chief British delegate to the recent tri-partite i.a- val conference at Geenva, yesterday |, declared that he was not disappoint- ed with the conference. He was quite certain, he said, that it had done a deal of good because it had let light and air into the whole subject. Mr. Bridgema made this state- ment during an address at a con- servative meeting here. The first lord expressed the hope that Hugh Gibson and Rear Admiral Hilary Jones, American representatives at the conference, were now engaged in smoking the peace pipes which he gave them when bidding them good-bye.
