‘TEASING THE GIRLS “EXPENSIVE SPORT Yonfll Wlm Has Argument With Policeman Fined $3 Charles Schmidt, aged 22, of 66 Seymour street, was fined $5 without costs by Judge Henry P. Roche in police court this morning on the charge of breach of the peace, after | Supernumerary Officer Lesevicius | had testified that Schmidt used vile and insulting language towards him at Walnut Hill park last evening. According to the officer, Schmidt was one of a crowd of young men taking delight in catching a base- ball which girls were playing with, | and annoying the girls by passing it about among themselves. The officer spoke to Schmidt about it, accord- | ing to the testimony, and was in-| sulted. Schmidt, however, charged that the officer swung his blackjack at him and would have struck him with it but for his alacrity in dodging the | blow. He admitted he was catching the ball hit by the girls, but said he | threw it over to the girl's field after | having caught it. > Strikes Wife With Knife William Tucker, colered, aged 35, I of 163 Oak street, pleaded not guil- ty to the charge of breach of the peace. Officer M. J. Moore testified to making the arrest about 9:30 last night on complaint of Mrs. Tucker. The tenement showed signs of a scuffle having taken place, the offi cer testified, and Mrs. Tucker charg: ed that her husband struck her on the left hand with a knife. Mrs. Tucker testified that every morning and night her husband causes trouble in the house. He works steadily and does not drink, but he abuses her and arouses the| neighborhood without any reason. Tucker, however, said his wife causes the trouble. She broke glass and upset the household last eve- ning. “She gets mad as women will,” he said. Mrs. Tucker's sister testified that Tucker came home last night and sccused his wife of working in “bad houses,” .and struck her with a knife and stick. Judge Roche imposed a suspend- ed jail sentence of 30 days and told Tucker he apparently thinks he can do as he pleases about his home, but he must bear in mind that he must behave. If he comes before the court again for disturbing the peace he will go to jail, Judge Roche told him. Speeders Fined $10 Paul Kerelejza, aged 22, of T4 Spring street, pleaded not guilty to! the charge of speeding. Officer Al- fred Tanguay testified that the| young man drove at the rate of 40 miles an hour from Allen street to| Hartford avenue on Stanley street| after 6 o'clock last evening and 38| miles an hour on Hartford avenue.| The traffic was heavy, the officer| said. Kerelejza said his speedometer was inaccurate according to a com- parison with the instrument on the officer’'s motorcycle. He said he would pay a premium to the officer for every mile per hour in excess of 40 the car could be driven on a level course. A fine of $10 and costs was im- posed. Samuel Banders, aged 44, of 263 Linwood street, pleaded not guilty to the charge of speeding. Officer Louis E. Harper testified that San-I ders was driving at the rate of 35| miles an hour on East Main street between Summer and Center streets about 9:20 last night. Attorney Alfred Le Witt repre- sented Sanders who was positive he was not driving in excess of 22 miles an hour. A fine of $10 and costs was imposed and bonds for an appeal were fixed at $100. CONN.
