BRONER GONDENNS FIXING OF PRICE Blames $87.50 Limit for Gong- ng by Speculators New York, July 21.—(P—The state boxing commission today was *held wholly responsible by one of its own members for the reported rise of $27.50 tickets to the Demp- sey-Sharkey fight tonight to a tigure around $125. The accusing George E. Brower, blamed the board's action in placing a $27.50 limit on the price of tickets as the cause of an enormous harvest at the hands of speculators. The paste- boards had a much higher intrinsic value and the public, according to the law of supply and demand, was willing to pay big sums, Brower maintained. Speculation, he declar- ed, was the inevitable result. The commissioner said he had “labored again and again” unsucces- fully to make his two associates on the commission, James A. Farley and Willlam Muldoon, see his view- point. Their majority ruling, forther- more, was illegal, he added. Brower's explanation differed with testimony given yesterday by Joseph Boynton, chief ticket seller for the Madison Square Garden Corporation, promotors of tonight's fight. “You can't keep fight tickets away from speculators any more than you can keep a duck away from water,” declared Boynton, appearing as a witness before United States Attor- ney Tuttle's investigation.” He sald he had already collected about’ $750,000 for tonight's fistic battle. Questioned as to whether he ver received gratuities from ticket agencies, he frankly admitted he| had. He called the gratuities the “‘overage,” adding that he had been accustomed to receiving it when he worked for Ringling Brothers’ circus and that Tex Rickard had acquiesced In it as long as the ac- counts balanced. Rickard last night made public a list of ticket allotments. This in- cluded 1,285 complimentary seats, which at a price of $27.50. would have sold for $35,337 The list | <howed that 330 pasteboards had been sold to local ticket agencies and 825 to out-of-town agencies, In- cluded in the complimentary list were 800 press tickets, 250 of which was allotted the “working press™ and 100 to photographers. The list shows the greater num- ber of complimentary tickets went to ‘politicians, police officials, internal revenue offfcers, labor . leaders, newspaper executives, public offi- cials and figures prominent in sports. commissioner, ARMOUR'S CONDITION London, July 21 (®—J.
