PARKER ELECTED ROTARY PRESIDENT Police Commissioner fo Be Head of Club Atter July 1 Police Commissioner Orville F. Parker, whose Rotary name |is “Sandy,” was elected president ~of the New Britain Rotary club to suc- ceed A. F. Corbin at the luncheon and Steve Robb; sergeant-at-arms, Howard Sherman. President Corbin announced that the Rotary club is taking care of two boys at the Newington Home for Crippled Children. The speaker today was Rev. Dr. J. Romayne Danforth of New Lon- 1don. Dr. Danforth took as his subject “Stone Walls.” * He called attention to the stone walls marking ~farm at the Burritt hotel today. officers were elected as Vice-president, A, H. Scott; secre-/ boundaries at Stonington and in the vicinity of New London. He ex- | plained how these walls are built Ly placing one stone on top of two, fitting them in so that the combined weight of the stones helps to hold them in place. He said this is the way man should live, so that every man could lean on two others and all three be strong together like the stone wall, He said this principle had been discovered by Mussolini, who had ] discovered that individual liberty must be left in abeyance in order to promote general efficiency. He spoke of the change in the last 10 years in the skyline of New York | the skyscraper built on the receding terrace plan. *“Man could not in- crease his efficlency without elevat- ing his purpose,” he commented ex- plaining that the terrace idea has added to the beauty and grace of buildings, and adding, “the cathedral has come back into its own.” | “We are living in the best age the {svorld has ever seen and it is to be Other | followed by one better yet,” he con- | cluded. = ORVILLE F.
