REMOVAL OF DIAZ MAY BE DEMANDED His Continuance in Office May Block Peace Negotiation Managua, Nic, May 2 (® — Al- though the name of the conservative president, Adolfo Diaz had not been ' brought into the peace discussions between Henry L. Stimson, personal representative of President Coolidge, and the delegates of the liberal pres- ident, Juan B. Sacasa, it was learn- ed from authoritative sources today that continuance of President Diaz in office would be a stumbling block in the way of a successful outcome. The liberal delegates who reach: here Friday from President Sacasa’s headquarters at Puerto Cabezas, are known to have been given broad in- structions as to peace terms. but it was said that they could not con- sider a proposal that Diaz remain in power until the 1928 elections. The liberals claim that Diaz was the brains of the Chamorro coup “etat against President Solorzano last year, which led to the present trouble be- tween the liberal and conservative factions, and that thercfore almost anyone but Diaz is acceptable. It was agreed at yesterday's dis cussions that General Joe Maria Moncada, secretary of war and chief military commander for President Sacasa, should be represented in the conference. Consequently a mission, accompanied by United States offi- cers, was to proceed through the liberal and conservative battle lines to invite Moncada to meet the lib- erals near Tipitapi to zive his opin- fon as to the hest means for ending the warfare and for establishing an honorable peace. If General Mon- cada does not care to venture from his headquarters for this purpose, it is expected his opinion will be real- ized to Managua by Cordo Reyes, who was sent from Puerto Cabezas with the delegation and who has been designated to proceed to the general's headquarters. Leonardo Arguello, Sacasa's min- ister of foreign affairs, one of the | delogates, said after meeting: “I have recefved an excellent im- pression of Mr. Stimson. His open, frank discussion of our troubles in Nicaragua has impressed us greatly vesterday's and will be a great help in arriving | at a friendly understanding, and, I hope, ultimate peace. I believe Mr. Stimson is the finest man possible for the mission, and that justice will be given the Nicaraguan people through his efforts, due to his open, unbaised and understanding attitude. 3 “The liberals are willing to make an equal sacrifice with the conserv- atives for the purpose of peace. We believe dissemination of the true facts as gathered by Mr. Stimson in the Investigation will greatly aid the Nicaraguan cause in the United States, as many false reports of the true situation have been given.” Fighting continued in the Teustepe vicinity yesterday, but nothing de- cisive was accomplished. The liber- als on Saturday night entered Na- garotte, on the railroad between Chinandega and Managua, ~ killing 14 conservatives and gathering scores of rifles and much food be- wino plumbs— his name is LEROUX he is at your service D fore retreating.
