| NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, Judge William C. Hungerford, of Russell street, has returned from a | stay at Camden, South Carolina, Miss Carlotta Sloper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Sloper of Russell street, sailed at noon today on the S. S. Homerlc which will make the Mediterranean cruise. PP Mrs. M. N. Judd, of Franklin Square has lett for Florida. PR MISS ANNE ALBANESE Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Albanese of Maple street, have|. announced the engagement of their daughter, to Floyd Mitchell, son of Mrs. Agnes Mitchell of Chestnut street. Social Activities About Town The time seems to have arrived when New Britain is wit- nessing a low ebb in its social activities, due perhaps to the inclement weather of the past few days, perhaps to the fact that the gayeties of Christmas and New Year's are scarcely past, or perhaps to the fact that tours abroad and trips south are occupying the plans of many who otherwise create part of the gay life of the town. Nearly every week brings to light the sailing of a new group of local folk. Their destinations, of course, are varied, perhaps the favorite being cruises on the Mediterranean sea. Cuba, Florida, the West Indies and Ber- muda are not being slighted in the attentions of our travelers, however, many being headed for one or another of those| warmer spots of this hemisphere. Winter sports had been receiving their share of patronage | in a small way here, many impromptu parties having been organized for the skating, sliding or skiing. Unfortunately the weather has barred these pursuits as well, slush covering most of the spots where snow or ice might be better enjoyed. A skat- ing carnival, scheduled for the pond at the Country Club for last Monday evening, after having once been postponed from | the Friday before, was again called off. Unquestionably many other affairs of a similar nature have been interfered with. The annual midwinter ball at the Shuttle Meadow club, which is scheduled for next Saturday evening, is a bright spot on the social calendar for the coming week. Pre-nuptial parties are less numerous for the simple rea- son that few weddings are taking place. Several engagements have been announced and the fiftieth wedding anniversary of one couple, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Wilcox, has been observed. In the field of the clubs the Burns club banquet held Thursday evening was probably the most noteworthy event of the week.
