WOMEN SEEKING COUNTY BERTHS Two in New Haven Want to Be| Commissioners New Haven, Dec. 10 (P—TWoman will oppose woman for nomination for a county commissionership in a county meeting for the first time in the history of the state during the 1927 session of the General Assem- bly as the result of the candidacy of Mrs. Clara N. Cower of East Ha- ven for the New Haven county com- mission place now held by Mi Emily Sophle Brown of Naugatuck. Miss Brown is a candidate for re- election. The terms of both Miss Brown and John W. Sanford of Hamden ex- pire next October and their succes- sors will be named by the 1927 legis- lature. Both are candidates for re- clection, while Mrs, Cower, Hultert L. Platt of Milford and Harold R. Durant of Guilford are also avowed candidates with Representative Seth N. Beecher of Seymour report- ed in a receptive mood. J'Carelessness” on the part of John Murphy in leaving his name on the democratic caucus list in Waterbury for the past fourteen years while he has been voting the republican tick- et, according to Miss Brown, is the basls for much of the opposition to re-election of the present commis- sioners. Mr. Murphy was appointed super- intendent of the court house at Wa- terbury by the commissioners on the death of the superintendent under whom he had served for fourtcen vears. He had worked faithfully Quring that time, and always voted he republican ticket, Miss Brown said, so that commissioners felt jus- tified in promoting him. Republ cans pointing to Mr. Murphy's name on the democratic caucus list, claim- ed the commissioners should have appointed a caucus list registrant o. their own party. Miss Brown is the only woman county commissioner in the state. ORMISTON NOW BELIEVED T0 BE MARRIED MAN Detective Says Letters Indicate He Has Wife Down in Brazil.
