Elmer W. Stearns of Worthington ridge was struck by an automobile last evening and slightly injured, suffering bruises and abrasions. The incident occurred at about 7:30 o'clock in front of the post of- fice at Worthington ridge and Farm- ington avenue., Mr, Stearns crossed the road almost under the wheels of the car, it was stated by wit- nesses, and was {hrown to the side of the road by the impact. The driv- er of the automobile stopped and took him to the office of a local | physician where it was found that his injuries were not serious. Upon investigation by police au- thorties it was found that the accl- dent was unavoidable by the oper- ator of the machine and he was,re- Ieased. Stearns returned to his home and is reported as fecling improved this morning. Judge Fines Thief Judge George G. Griswold, at the regular weekly session of the Ber- lin town court, fined Newton Wood- son, colored, of Christian Lane $50 and gave him a 90 day jail sentence which was later suspended. Wood- son was charged with stealing two suits of clothes from Charles and John Moore of the Stiles & Reynolds brick yard. Woodson was arrested by Orville Ventres yesterday at his home, the theft occurring at 11 o'clock Monday night. As the man | lived over the New Britain line on Curistian Lane and is an employe of the Holmes brickyard of New Britaln, it was necessary for Officer Ventres to go to the New Britain police station and from there, in the company of Sergeant Flynn, go to the man’s house where the arr occurred. Woodson was lodged in the New Britain lock-up until last night's session of the court. The case of Samuel Hook, charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct was continued until Novem- ber 29 because of Mrs. Hook's fail- ure to appear in court to testify.
